As well as producing unique or variant cards available at events, Nintendo has also released several varieties of promotional items in which to deliver special cards. Such mediums include value packs, boxed sets and collector tins. The list below focuses on collector tins, each of which contain a promotional card and booster packs from recent Expansions. The items are listed in (roughly) chronological order and contain details of their contents.

Containing only one expansion, the Legendary Collection Series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game has an extremely limited amount of merchandise associated with it. Unlike other Series, the Legendary Collection Series does not have any collector's tins or value boxes, and only contains the two Theme Decks for the Legendary Collection expansion.

Legendary Collection Theme Decks
The EX Series Collector's Tin was released in November 2003 and was the first collector's tin to be released by Nintendo. As the general collector's tin, with a window display and hexagonal design, did not debut until 2006, this collector's tin instead was rectangular and lacked a window.
Released on May 24, 2002, Legendary Collection brought with it a pair of Theme Decks, featuring the Mouse Pokémon Raichu and the Flame Pokémon Charizard. Raichu's Theme Deck, Turmoil, features Water and Lightning Pokémon while Charizard's Lava Theme Deck features Fire and Fighting Pokémon. Each Theme Deck came packaged with a metal coin as well as a rulebook, damage counters, and card list. Each deck also came with one random Burst Reverse Holofoil card from the expansion.

EX Deck Tins
The EX Deck Tins were released in October 2004 and were the first tins to be released in a number of different designs. They were designed to hold a 60-card deck in sleeves as well as other items, such as counters, markers, coins and dice. Their designs were based on Japanese booster pack artwork from EX Sandstorm (Miracle of the Desert), EX Dragon (Rulers of the Heavens), EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua (Magma VS Aqua: Two Ambitions) and EX FireRed & LeafGreen (Flight of Legends).

EX Collector's Carry Tin
The EX Collector's Carry Tin was released in 2005 and is a unique item amongst Nintendo’s promotional items. It features a carry handle, a latch and is the largest tin to be released to date. It is the same tin that was used for the Japanese Deoxys vs Rayquaza Gift Set in 2004. The tin art features a battle between Deoxys and Rayquaza, as depicted in Destiny Deoxys.

Following the success of their previous collector tins and responding to the feedback from the community, Nintendo released the first wave of new “window tins”, in which people could see the promotional card included. The tins feature Japanese art from various sets along the side.

These were the first tins to have specifically designed lids to distinguish between each other (the designs also match the card available in the tin). They were also the first to be released under the schedule in which the tins become available now: spring and holiday (autumn), these being the 2006 holiday collector tins.

Also known as the 2007 Spring Collector's Tins, these are unusual as the tin designs do not match any of the promotional cards included (with the exception of Tyranitar in the UK and Europe), and the promotional cards differ depending on the country the tins were available in.

Diamond & Pearl Collector's Tins
Known as the Diamond & Pearl Collector's Tins. For a time, preliminary images of these were displayed as including a regular Torterra, Infernape and Empoleon, all found within the Diamond & Pearl expansion and its Theme Deck. Nearer their release, however, it was found that they included their Pokémon LV.X variants with promotional artwork instead.

Lucario Collector's Tin
The Lucario Collector's Tin was released in September 2007 as a standalone tin in order to release the Japanese Lucario LV.X promo in English. It was the first Japanese Visual Book promotional card, and the first to be released outside Japan (followed by Majestic Dawn and DP Promo). It is also the first standalone window tin.

Holiday 2008 Collector's Tins
Instead of releasing three holiday tins, in 2008, The Pokémon Company released two waves of two tins each, thus releasing four holiday tins instead of three.
Wave 1
The first wave, called the Diamond & Pearl Holiday 2008 Collector's Tins Wave 1, was released on September 17, 2008. These tins include promotional variants, with artwork not released in Japan at the time, of the Mewtwo LV.X and Rhyperior LV.X cards released in Legends Awakened.

The second wave, called the Diamond & Pearl Holiday 2008 Collector's Tins Wave 2, was released on November 5, 2008. These tins include promotional variants of the Heatran LV.X and Regigigas LV.X cards released in Stormfront, released on the same day.

Spring 2009 Collector's Tins
Officially known as the 2009 Pokémon TCG: Spring Collector's Tins and to be released on March 2, 2009, these tins, rather than including cards based entirely on an expansion, are instead based on the three main Legendary Pokémon featured in Giratina and the Sky Warrior: Dialga, Giratina Origin Forme and Shaymin Sky Forme. All three cards are reprints; however, only the included Dialga LV.X reprint has been released in Japan. Both Giratina LV.X and Shaymin LV.X are to be included in Platinum.

These were also plans  for these Collector's Tins to hold a collectible Pokémon Trading Figure Game figure, but they were pulled before release.

Released on May 24, 2002, Legendary Collection brought with it a pair of Theme Decks, featuring the Mouse Pokémon Raichu and the Flame Pokémon Charizard. Raichu's Theme Deck, Turmoil, features Water-type and Lightning-type Pokémon while Charizard's Lava Theme Deck features Fire-type and Fighting-type Pokémon. Each Theme Deck came packaged with a metal coin as well as a rulebook, damage counters, and card list. Each deck also came with one random Burst Reverse Holofoil card from the expansion.
