Grotle (Japanese: ハヤシガメ Hayashigame) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

Grotle comes with the ability Overgrow, which increases the power of Grass-type attacks by 50% once the Pokémon has less than one-third of its maximum HP.

Grotle evolves from Turtwig starting at Level 18, and evolves into Torterra starting at Level 32.

Biology

Physiology

The shell possessed by Turtwig has grown to protect Grotle's entire head and back. Turtwig's sprout has migrated to Grotle's back and grown into full bushes. Grotle will sometimes start to roll around in dirt and mud. This allows minerals to seep in and make its shell even harder.

Gender differences

None.

Trivia

  • Grotle is the heaviest of any of the middle evolutions of the starters and heavier than all of the final stages of the starters except for Venusaur, Meganium and Torterra.
  • Although its pre-evolution and evolution have, Grotle has yet to appear in the anime; however, it is known that Paul had one before it evolved into Torterra.

Origin

Grotle is based on a snapping turtle.

Name origin

"Grotle" comes from grove and turtle. Its Japanese name, Hayashigame, derives from 林 hayashi, forest or grove, and 亀 kame, turtle. Its German name, Chelcarain, comes from Chelonia and Terrain. Its French name, Boskara, comes from bosquet and carapace.
