Trivia
- Tamagetake is the third Pokémon to resemble a Poké Ball, the others being Voltorb, and Electrode.
- However, unlike the others, it only has a Poké Ball design on it, instead of being in the shape of one.
- Likewise, it features the whole design, complete with the circle resembling the button in the middle - contrary to Voltorb evolution line having just the shape and general colors, and according to the Pokédex, being transformed Poké Balls themselves.
- Tamagetake shares its species name with Paras, Parasect, Shroomish, and Breloom. They are all known as Mushroom Pokémon.
- Interestingly, all of the above Pokémon appear in an odd numbered generation, Paras and Parasect in Generation 1, Shroomish and Breloom in Generation 3, and Tamagetake in Generation 5.
Origin
It appears to be based on a mushroom species called Fly Amanita or Agaricus. This is also supported by the fact that this mushroom is considered poisonous and Tamagetake is Template:Type2. The cap seems to be based off the front of a Poké Ball.
Name origin
Part of the its name may be derived from 茸 take, mushroom (or, more specifically, the Shiitake mushroom) and 玉 tama, sphere, referencing the design of its cap. Another possibility is the word 魂消るTamageru, which means "to be astonished."
