Trivia
- Some scenes of this episode are similar to scenes from the first movie. These include the battle with Giovanni and Gary.
- Apparently, a Gym Leader isn't allowed by Pokemon League rules and regulations to not reward a trainer a badge if they win fair and square, as Ash says to Jessie "Hey! That's cheating!" when she said that she isn't giving the badge to Ash despite his winning fair and square. Whether this applies to regions other than Kanto or not is unknown, but it's implied that they might uphold these same rules in all of the regions due to the fact that the Pokémon Inspection Agency controls all Pokemon League events.
- This also marks the first and only time a Gym Leader refuses to give the badge to Ash despite winning the battle fair and square.
