On the second day of [[Pokémon Summer Academy]] all of the students have to go to a lake and study water type Pokémon, Ash chooses a [[dewgong]], Dawn chooses a [[Gorebiss]], Brock chooses a [[Chinchou]], and Angie chooses a [[Sealeo]].  After using boats and getting in the water to get up close to the Pokémon they return to the bank to finish drawing their Pokémon.  As the group is talking a white flash comes from across the lake and [[shinx]] becomes hypnotized and walks off.  After a few minutes the group realizes that shinx is missing and they start looking for it.  When the light flashes again and [[piplup]] becomes hypnotized then dawn stops piplup from wandering off.  Then the group decides to go and investigate the light and they find a cave, and in the cave is a [[lumineon]] whom the light off its tails hypnotizes Pokémon and draws them in.  After having a battle with Jessilinda, Brock discovers that the lumineon had been eating some algae.  When the group returned to the class they did a report on lumineon and said that lumineon had been eating algae, although they got a perfect score, [[Professor Rowan]] deducted several points because they left the lake without permision.

Up Close and Personable! (Japanese: 研究発表「湖の伝説」! Research Presentation: "Legend of the Lake"!) is the 89th episode of the Diamond & Pearl series, and the 555th episode of the Pokémon anime. While at a summer school, during a drawing session, Ash, Dawn, Brock, and Angie find that their Pokémon are becoming hypnotized near a lake and decide to investigate. It first aired in Japan on August 14, 2008 and in the United States on January 10, 2009.

  • This is the only episode in the entire Summer School arc where Jessie's Wobbuffet made its appearance. It is also the only episode of the arc where any of Ash's Pokémon (besides Pikachu) appears.
