Blaine's Magmar (Japanese: カツラのブーバー Katsura's Boober) is Blaine's main Pokémon in the anime.
In the anime
Magmar first appeared in the episode Riddle Me This. Blaine said that he captured Magmar in the Cinnabar Island Volcano and that it is his strongest Pokémon. Magmar has a special ability known as 'Air Lens' which heats the air around it making electrical attacks ineffective.
Blaine used Magmar in the Gym battle against Ash. It was able to almost defeat Ash's Pikachu before Ash forfeited the match. Magmar later appeared in the episode Volcanic Panic where it helped Ash and the others stop the lava from the erupting volcano to flow out to the city. Ash's Charizard was impressed by Magmar and decided to help, something which it would not do normally.
When Ash was contemplating on who to use for the rematch against Blaine, Charizard offered to battle Magmar. After a hard fought battle at the top of the volcano, Charizard became the victor earning Ash the Volcano Badge.
Magmar was seen again in a flashback in Bad to the Bone, where it was defeated in a Gym battle by Otoshi's Marowak.
