32 is a lengthy, Trainer-heavy route that stretches south along the shoreline.  The Ruins of Alph lie off to the west, but without 03 and 04, only the first of the four chambers is accessible.

Ruins of Alph
On your first visit, the only accessible area is the north chamber.  Read the hint to the right of the puzzle picture to find out what Pokémon it is, and move the pieces into place.  When you complete the puzzle, the floor beneath you will give way, dropping you into the main underground chamber.  Completing the first puzzle awakens the first eleven forms of Unown, from A through K.  If you catch at least three different forms, one of the scientists investigating the ruins will be waiting for you near the exit.  He'll take you to the research building and upgrade your Pokédex so it can record the various Unown forms.

After obtaining 03, you can then reach the three remaining puzzles in order to unlock the other Unown forms.  This also lets you reach the lone patch of grass here, the only location where wild Natu and Smeargle are found.

South of the ruins are two men standing near a ledge.  The first gives you a Type-enhancing item, which boosts Grass attacks, while the man behind the Cut tree hands out 05.  Head south past Picnicker Liz to reach a small inlet.  Be sure to register Fisherman Ralph's phone number so he can inform you of Qwilfish Pokémon outbreak.  Before you can reach the Pokémon Center, a shady man outside offers to sell you a "tasty, nutritious Valuable item" for only pdollar1,000,000. Team Rocket must be getting desperate.  Meet up with Frieda of the Weekday Siblings behind the Pokémon Center on a Friday to get a Type-enhancing item.  Chat up the Fishing Guru in the Pokémon Center to get the List of key items in Generation II, and rest up before entering Union Cave.

Union Cave
Union Cave is a small, three-floor cave on the southern edge of the peninsula.  Seawater wells up from underground here, preventing access to the deepest parts of the cave for now. Initially, the ground-level tunnel merely connects 32 and 33, but exploring the basement floors with Surf reveals two more exits that lead back to the Ruins of Alph.  On the bottom floor, a wild Lapras appears every Friday.

Ruins of Alph
Read the hint in the north chamber to identify the Pokémon and move the pieces into place. The floor gives way, dropping you into the main underground chamber where the first eleven forms of Unown, A through K, have awakened. Catch at least three different forms, and one of the scientists investigating the ruins will take you to the research building and upgrade your Pokédex so it can record the various Unown forms.

The ground-level tunnel is a fairly straightforward path. Wind your way back and forth until you see the ladder in the southwest, which lets you reach an Battle item and 39 on the floor below. Grab the Status ailment healing item at the south wall, and take the exit to 33.

Revision as of 07:16, 25 April 2017

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Gold and Silver.
These pages follow the original Game Boy Color iteration, not Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. The guide for those games can be found here.

Route 32

Route 32

Route 32 is a lengthy, Trainer-heavy route that stretches south along the shoreline. The Ruins of Alph lie off to the northwest, but only the first of the four chambers is currently accessible.

Ruins of Alph

Ruins of Alph

Read the hint in the north chamber to identify the Pokémon and move the pieces into place. The floor gives way, dropping you into the main underground chamber where the first eleven forms of Unown, A through K, have awakened. Catch at least three different forms, and one of the scientists investigating the ruins will take you to the research building and upgrade your Pokédex so it can record the various Unown forms.

HM03 and HM04 are required to reach the three other puzzles, and unlock the other Unown forms. In addition, the lone patch of grass is the only place to find wild Natu and Smeargle.

South of the ruins are two men standing near a hill. The first gives you a Miracle Seed, which boosts Grass-type attacks, while the man behind the cuttable tree hands out TM05 (Roar). Head south to reach a small inlet, and register Fisherman Ralph's phone number for alerts about Qwilfish swarms. Further south, a shady man offers a "tasty, nutritious SlowpokeTail" for only $1,000,000. Meet up with Frieda behind the Pokémon Center on a Friday to get a Poison Barb. Chat up the Fishing Guru inside to get the Old Rod, and rest up before entering Union Cave.

Union Cave

Union Cave, 1F

Union Cave is a small, three-floor cave on the south end of the peninsula. Seawater wells up from underground, preventing access to the deepest parts of the cave for now. The ground-level tunnel merely connects Route 32 and Route 33, but exploring the basement floors with Surf and Strength reveals two more exits that lead back to the Ruins of Alph. On the bottom floor, a wild Lapras appears once a week.

1F

The ground-level tunnel is a fairly straightforward path. Wind your way back and forth until you see the ladder on the southwest platform, which lets you reach an X Defend and TM39 (Swift) on the floor below. Grab the Awakening at the south wall, and take the exit to Route 33.

Union Cave, B1F
Union Cave, B2F

B1F

Return with the HM moves Surf and Strength to finally explore the rest of the cave.

To reach the Ruins of Alph, climb the ladder on the southwest platform to B1F. Surf north to reach a fork in the road; the northern path leads to Puzzle #3, while the southern path, blocked by a boulder, leads to Puzzle #4.

B2F

To reach the bottom floor, surf across the pool of water in the southwest to reach a ladder. Swim across another pool on B1F, and take the next ladder to the north side of B2F. There's an Elixir in the northeast corner, and a Hyper Potion on the platform near Ace Trainer Nick. A Lapras appears in the south pool every Friday.

Route 33

Route 33

Route 33 is extremely short, and connects Union Cave to Azalea Town in the west. Before heading into town, defeat Hiker Anthony and register his phone number to receive alerts about Dunsparce swarms.

Azalea Town

Azalea Town

Azalea is a small, isolated town on the south end of the peninsula. Situated between Union Cave to the east and Ilex Forest to the west, the town does not get many visitors. The residents know that something's up when you tell them of shady people near the Slowpoke Well, and Kurt, the famous Apricorn craftsman, rushes off to help the oblivious Pokémon inside.

Slowpoke Well

By the time you catch up with Kurt, he's already defeated the Rocket Grunt outside, but slipped while entering the well and landed on his back. As he is temporarily incapacitated, it's up to you to defeat the other four Rockets to save the Slowpoke.

Team Rocket disappears, and Kurt is mobile again. He takes you back to his house, and gives you a Lure Ball as thanks for saving the Slowpoke. Kurt knows more about Apricorns than anyone, and from this point on you can bring him any Apricorn to have it transformed into a custom Poké Ball by the next day. Apricorns come in seven different colors, each perfect for a specific type of Poké Ball.

Apricorn Ball Effect
Blk Apricorn Blk Apricorn Heavy Ball Heavy Ball Better for heavier Pokémon
Blu Apricorn Blu Apricorn Lure Ball Lure Ball Better for Pokémon hooked by a fishing rod
Grn Apricorn Grn Apricorn Friend Ball Friend Ball Makes a Pokémon more friendly
Pnk Apricorn Pnk Apricorn Love Ball Love Ball Better for Pokémon of opposite gender, but same species
Red Apricorn Red Apricorn Level Ball Level Ball Better for lower-leveled Pokémon
Wht Apricorn Wht Apricorn Fast Ball Fast Ball Better for Pokémon that flee from battle
Ylw Apricorn Ylw Apricorn Moon Ball Moon Ball Better for Pokémon that evolve with a Moon Stone

With the Rockets gone, you are now free to challenge the Azalea Gym. Rest up at the Pokémon Center, and head inside.
