Trivia
- Music from Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea and the song Oración (Rise Of Darkrai) are used as background music.
- Professor Oak's Pokémon lecture: Starly
- Jessie, disguised as Jessalina, dresses up like Fantina for this episode's contest. She also uses a French accent similar to Fantina's.
- James and Meowth wore the same outfits they wore in Gymbaliar!.
- This is the first time Dawn wins a ribbon in which the events of the contest take place in one episode.
- It is implied that ribbons never expire, and that multiple years can be used to collect the needed five ribbons for the Grand Festival. However, after competing in the Festival, the five cannot be used in another competition.
- This episode contains the anime's first representation of Substitute, an attack that has existed since Generation I.
- Another notable difference between the anime and the games is the status ailment Attraction which, in the games, does not wear off on its own.
Errors
- Ambipom's eyes drastically shrank in one scene. This can be seen when Dawn and the others are walking down the hallway before Lila is seen talking to Johanna through the videophone.
