Lucario (Japanese: ルカリオ Lucario) is a Steel/Fighting-type Pokémon.

Lucario's height is 1.2 meters (3'11"), and its weight is 54.0 kilograms (119 lbs).

In CoroCoro it's been confirmed that Lucario knows an attack called Wave Guiding Bomb, It's a Fighting Type Attack. Lucario also knows Detect and Quick Attack. Lucario also has a Secondary ability called Humble Heart.

Name origin

Lucario's name is a corrupted version of the word oracle spelt backwards.

This Pokémon is often referred to as Rukario. While this is correct as a basic Hepburn romanization, it is not used by any official sources.

Lucario appears to be based on the Egyptian god Anubis, who has the head of a jackal. The black appendages on the back of its head are used to detect the auras of creatures and objects around it. While Lucario reads aura, it closes its eyes, and thus the appendages and the way they look "tied" around its face appear to be based on someone being blindfolded.

Additional information

In the Pokémon movie "Lucario and the Mystery of Mew", the jackal-like Pokémon is considered a legend from olden times to the town where it appears in front of Ash and Co.

It has been widely assumed that Lucario will be a Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, however, it has been revealed that it is gendered in the game, which is a trait not seen in legendaries (other than Latias and Latios).

In addition to this, Lucario is believed by some fans to be the Pokémon of which the Sealed Chamber Braille riddle speaks of. If true, this means that Lucario bears a connection to Regirock, Regice and Registeel, possibly reflected in the games.
