Snowpoint City
Once you reach Snowpoint City, immediately heal up at the Pokémon Center since your Pokémon are probably exhausted. The temple in the northernmost part of the city isn't accessible until you get the National Dex, so ignore it for now (if you try to go inside, the woman will block you). There is an old man in the north-eastenmost house that will give you a trendy phrase once per day. A girl named Mindy in the north-westernmost house will trade her Haunter nicknamed Gaspar for a Medicham. Gaspar is holding an Everstone, so it won't evolve into Gengar. There is a sailor that will drive a ship and bring you to the Battle Zone, but only if you beat the Elite Four and Champion, and are "recognized by the Pokemon League". From what he says, it seems that he looks forward to that day.
An interesting weather condition called Diamond Dust happens only on 12th January. On that day, no snow falls in Snowpoint City. Instead, you will see sparkles in the air. Those sparkles are the Diamond Dust.
There are also something for you to collect in this town.

When you are ready, head to the Snowpoint Gym. The Gym is located in the middle of the town, so you are guaranteed to find it.
Snowpoint Gym
Heal your Pokémon before entering the Gym. The Gym Leader's highest-leveled Pokémon is level 42. If Infernape was your starter, this Gym will be very easy to beat.
The Snowpoint City Gym puzzle consists of a four-level ice rink with ramps connecting the various floors. There are several giant snowballs that are blocking the stairs to the Gym Leader. You must destroy them by sliding down the ramps at them.
All of Candice's Pokémon are weak to fire except for her Medicham, which is weak to ghost- and flying-type moves. (Ice-types, by the way, are also weak to fighting and steel.) You probably won't want to take any flying-types into this Gym, since they're weak to ice, but you might have a ghost-type. Candice sends out her Snover first. Its ability will make it begin to hail, damaging every Pokémon that isn't part ice-type. Try not to let this bother you. Candice's strongest Pokémon is her Abomasnow, which can confuse your Pokémon with Swagger or put them to sleep with GrassWhistle. It also knows Wood Hammer, a grass-type move that has 120 base power. However, it deals recoil damage. Abomasnow's Speed stat isn't the best, so hit it with a fire-type move (which will be 4x-supereffective) before it can do anything to you. Sneasel, which is 4x weak to fighting, shouldn't be too much of a threat.
The Icicle Badge will allow you to use the HM Rock Climb (which was located northeast of the Hiker's house on Route 217) outside of battle. Candice will also give you the TM for Avalanche, an ice-type move whose base power doubles if the Pokémon that uses it has been hurt by the opponent in the same turn.
