Move back to Silver Wing
It's not obtainable in Scarlet and Violet. Should we really move pages when the name change only happens in the code? SeanWheeler (talk) 02:16, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- I don't know, but I believe it should stay as Silver Feather. "Silver Wing" was a mistranslation made only due to the 12-character limit. If the change happens to be reflected in the animated series or any kind of other official Pokémon media, it should stay this way. --C.Ezra.M (talk | contribs) 10:29, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- Even if it's a mistranslation, if that was the name used in the English localization, that's the name we should be using. It's reasonable to rename pages based on more modern usage, although in this case the new name has never actually been used anywhere publicly, so I do think we should probably consider sticking with the old name until the new name gets used publicly. --SnorlaxMonster 13:14, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- I agree with SnolaxMonster.
- I also want to add that our Manual of Style requires a "consistent" usage (and, as we've established, we don't even have a public-facing usage). Every other canon on this page talks about "Silver Wing", too.
- I've also looked for similar cases (with the help of User:MisterE13/List of modified items#Name changes), and added a move notice for the Rainbow Wing (a very similar case to this one). (We could talk about moving back the Squirt Bottle, but I'm inclined to say a missing space is somewhat different to this, and don't think we should actually move that one.) - Past precedent has generally been to rename items immediately even if it hasn't reappeared. Colress Machine and Slowpoke Tail are similar in that the item itself has not reappeared since their respective name changes, though the name of the object has appeared in dialogue. Sticker Case and Sticker Bag also had their names changed in BDSP, but the items themselves aren't obtainable or mentioned. In terms of previous precedent, the Apricorns were titled after their new names since their split in 2017, even though they wouldn't reappear for three more years in The Isle of Armor.
- HOME only has one list of item names, so whatever name is used in SV is used for all games, even if it changed. If the items reappear, it's unlikely that the name will change again if they already intentionally changed it now—these are already a separate change from the stat-boosting Wing to Feather changes, so it's unlikely that it was an errant find-and-replace. --Abcboy (talk) 16:38, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- The Rainbow Feather appears in Pokémon Pokopia with that name, not Rainbow Wing. Trainersurrel0409 (talk) 15:53, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- So yeah, Rainbow Feather should definitely keep that name. I'm more ambivalent on Silver Feather. Landfish7 16:18, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- Uh actually i just found out that the Silver Feather is on the game as well, whoops! Anyway, both new names are official now. Trainersurrel0409 (talk) 16:42, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- Great! To be honest, that's enough for me. I'll remove the Move notices. Landfish7 16:44, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
