Move or Delete?

So... we have a brand new Pokémon Company press release telling the media to explicitly avoid the term & connotation we are making with this article. That does make it awkward but I have to say that I also find the current naming problematic, and can see why such a statement was made. Mainly as the word "series" implies well a sequence and the 2 "Legends" games we have thus far, while in the same genre are really quite different, in the mechanics, in the story, in the setting. I have 2 remedies I'd propose:

1) We move the page to Pokémon Legends games. This would allow us to emphasize the shared characteristics, framing it more as a collection of games in the same genre and not a distinct "series" of games.

2) We delete the article and instead could include some of the information contained within in the Core series page. I still think in this case we'd have to emphasize it as a subset of core-series games and not a "subseries" within the core series.

But if anyone has any other thoughts on this feel free to contribute as well. 4iamking 17:29, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

I'm in favor of option 2. I don't think there are really that many similarities between the two games, and if TPC doesn't want people using the term "Pokémon Legends series", it seems likely that they don't want people comparing the two. Giving these two games a separate page makes it seem like they have a significant relationship, which may not have been intended. Storm Aurora (talk) 03:29, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm having trouble finding that statement, could you help me?
(As for other thoughts: If no other preferred wording/title was mentioned, I feel like it's worth noting that we could also leave the article as it is.) Nescientist (talk) 14:33, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
It's at the very end: "<注意事項> 『Pokémon LEGENDS』シリーズという表記は避けてください" or <Note> Please avoid calling it the "Pokémon LEGENDS" series. 4iamking 14:47, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Also I just wanted to say, while we could do that I strongly think we shouldn't, especially not after an official statement telling us not to use the terminology. It's extremely rare for TPC to issue such a statement and that creates the risk of us reinforcing a "concept" that isn't rooted in fact and in that way kinda betrays our mission as an encyclopedia. 4iamking 14:50, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ah yes, thanks.
I was just saying that, if any page was deemed notable and had no official title, and then an official press release asks not to use what happens to be the page title but suggests no other title instead, I don't think it's necessarily mandatory to move it to some other title just because of that statement.
In this case, however, I think both of the suggested options make sense. Nescientist (talk) 15:01, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Looking at the page content, the only part that doesn't seem like it would fit on the core series page is the list of animated adaptations; would that fit elsewhere? Perhaps on the Pokémon Legends: Arceus page itself? If that could be moved elsewhere, the rest of the page's content seems like it could be made to sit in the core series article quite comfortably, perhaps in a "Pokémon Legends games" section under "List of core series games". I dont think that level of detail is appropriate for a video game page; if anything a "see also" link and maybe a 1 liner somewhere that it had 2 anime adaptations. Don't we have a list of Anime specials or something somewhere that would have this? 4iamking 15:22, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I had a look and we've got List of animated series specials, which The Arceus Chronicles is actually already listed on. I don't know enough about the animated series to know if Hisuian Snow would fit on that list, mind you. Cipher (talk) 16:12, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
This is a little confusing. Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokémon Legends: Z-A are both games under the Pokémon Legends subtitle. Is this not what, ostensibly, conforms a series? At the very least I'm sure this is how Wikipedia sees it. Do we even know specifically what TPC intends by not wishing both games to be considered part of a same series? I would like us to move it onto another page like core series as the appropriate course of action, and whatever content we want to offer as similarities between the two could either be communicated as a subsection of that page or a section of "similarities with <the other>" on the individual game pages. The anime content could be placed somewhere where we have "animated series based on the games" and include it with Pokémon Origins.
I think this solution works until we were to receive a third game. Then at that time we might have more content to consider. At the moment, we're being told "this is not a thing", so I don't think there's really any benefit to try and pretend that it is and search for similarities, acting as if they are intentional when they are in fact coincidental trivia. I mean, sure. They're also still both games under a "Pokémon Legends" branding, where you can very much tell they share a lot of similar mechanics exclusive to them, and Pokémon Legends: Z-A is still mechanically a follow-up to Legends: Arceus as it's exploring the planned concepts for real-time battles that the latter had (which is something we got from the 2024 leak and this wiki doesn't cover that, but it's out there). Insisting that they don't form a series of games just seems disingenuous, it's an argument you can't really make unless you're saying that 2 games don't make a series, which I don't think is how the term is used? Superstarxalien (talk) 22:45, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Furthermore, we still don't know any possible motives that TPC has for not wanting people to refer to Legends Arceus and Legends Z-A as part of a sub-series within mainline Pokémon. Or, whoever the statement came from in the first place, even. It could be for a marketing reason as inane as "we don't want people to compare this game with Legends Arceus" for all we know. Superstarxalien (talk) 22:51, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
While they have correlation, the fan base tends to give undo significance to 1) how we have pages titled and even 2) what topics we elevate by giving a separate page. I won't advocate for diminishing any of the content that's written, but I think given the context that the company, aka the source material, is providing here, this content could live comfortably as a subtopic on the core series page no problem.

I think this would be my preferred solution as well Landfish7 23:05, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Oki there seems to be a pretty strong consensus for merging. To get this done before the mad rush of the new game release I have gone ahead and done so. I've kept this page a redirect which will also be helpful in preserving the edit history. 4iamking 01:46, 13 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I find it odd they don't want it referred to as the "Pokémon Legends series" but then their English website refers to it as such. Not seen anything on the Japanese website about it being part of a series. Frozen Fennec 18:59, 14 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
