Talk:Browt (Pokémon)

Pecharunt (#1025) is the last Pokémon in the ninth generation, and Browt is the first Pokémon in the tenth generation. This is why its number is most likely #1026. SQUIRTINGSQUIRTLEMy Talk Page 01:12, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Whilst that is likely, we can't forget that Victini started the Unova Pokedex so the number is at present unconfirmed.--BigDocFan, Junior Admin Bulbapedia (talk) 01:13, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
You really make sense, but numbering of #000 for canon Pokémon likely won't happen as it's been almost five generations since it last happened. That's an estimated length of fifteen years. SQUIRTINGSQUIRTLEMy Talk Page 01:23, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Whether it's likely or not, we gain little from including info of this kind that we can't be certain about. In the worst case scenario, we could be actively misinforming our readers for potentially up to a year or more for basically no gain in the meantime. I also want to note that per the speculation policy, we can't put information in our articles that's based on what we presume to be true. Storm Aurora (talk) 02:28, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Remember when legendary Pokémon could not evolve? That rule was broken later on. Who knows, maybe the Fire Starter will be #1026 this time around. Assuming things without verification leads to misinformation spreading, even if the assumption has a lot of precedent. CrownMyFries (talk) 02:47, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's only a theory, not what I think has to be true. SQUIRTINGSQUIRTLEMy Talk Page 02:48, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sure, that's a fine theory. We can only put a Pokédex number on this page if it's confirmed to be true, though, so the Pokédex number field has to remain question marks for now. Storm Aurora (talk) 04:10, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Victini was in gen V, or 5, and this generation is both the next multiple of 5 and the next single digit roman numeral. Perhaps a mythical Pokémon starting with X will be the 1026th Pokémon. Bulmomon (talk) 20:13, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
We do not know if that is the case. Remember Unova and that "Mythical Pokémon before the Pokédex" thing? Teranex54 (talk) 05:04, 27 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Design Inspiration

The Kakapo is listed as a possible design inspiration for Browt, but I don't see any evidence for that other than that they're both flightless birds. I think it's best if we don't list a specific bird inspiration until we see its evolutions as right now it seems to be a pretty generic chick. AwesomeOcelot66 (talk) 01:30, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

I think it might be a bit of a stretch right now to mention a specific bird too. The resemblance isn't that clear for me. Thespeon (talk) 01:48, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I did some digging and while the translated names universally focus on the leafy eyebrows, the category names in other languages much more explicitly reference chickens rather than the generic term “chick.” “Polloporoto” and “Pollito Haba” in Spanish depending on the region, “Pollegume” in Italian, and “Poussin Pois” (literally “chick pea”) in French. I also enjoyed “Bohnenküken” in German.
It seems that the original Japanese category name “Mame Hiyoko” also literally translates to “Bean Chick,” but with the added context that chick-shaped pastries filled with sweet bean paste are apparently a common treat in some parts of Japan. So this little guy appears to be a reference that flew over most of the internet’s collective heads. Now whether it will stay a chicken as it evolves, I have no idea. Even just in the world of existing starters, we’ve had a duckling starter become a humanoid peacock-waterfowl hybrid and a previous baby chicken that became a raptor-chicken-man, not to mention all the different kinds of regional birds transform into different species over the years

Actually, I think it’s even more simple than this. The word for chickpea in Japanese also references baby chickens just as it does in English, combining the words for bean and chick: “Hiyoko Mame.” And Browt’s Pokédex category in Japanese is just “Mame Hiyoko.” So Browt is just a literal chick pea, or pea chick. Sometimes the simplest explanations are the correct ones. So if anything the Hiyoko cakes just play on the same pun/association ~Destruction on Wings~ (talk) 17:28, 28 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Aren't Kakapo's yellow and green which match Browt's palette? Galefuun (talk) 02:19, 1 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Browt has always got to be green because it is a Grass type starter, and it's yellow because baby chicks (esp. chickens) are typically that color. as is Browt's design is too generic and there aren't yet anything pointing towards kakapo any more than any other adult bird it could evolve into.
plus kakapos as with all parrots have zygodactyl feet (2 toes in front, 2 in back), while Browt only has 3 toes. ~ Anzasquiddles ~ 2222(:D)SSSS (talk) 09:02, 1 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
you have a point.
The scientific name of the kākāpō is Strigops habroptilus.
Sound like Browt's JP name?
Habrow?

Browt's tail feathers

You can see in the trailer that Browt has large, fluffy tail feathers. I wanted to add this to its description but can't because the page is protected, would anyone mind doing that? AwesomeOcelot66 (talk) 16:16, 4 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
