Proof of Love (Japanese: ラブの証明 Proof of Love) is the third chapter of the Arceus arc in Pokémon Masters EX. It focuses on N as he rechallenges the Pokémon League to prove his love of Pokémon.
It was released all at once on March 10, 2025.
Plot
- My Number-One Friend
Together with their Pokémon, N meets Arven by the lake to share food he had made. Looking at N's Pokémon, Arven asks which one of them is his "best buddy," referring to his own friendship with Mabosstiff. N considers this question, but ultimately decides that he loves all of his Pokémon equally.
A nearby voice asks N which Pokémon he relies on most, and the two turn to see Volo approaching. When N asks for Volo's opinion, he claims that N has likely not formed any bonds with his Pokémon, and thus, does not truly love them. Volo compares him to Arven, saying the latter does a better job of representing the bridge between humans and Pokémon.
Arven tells Volo he is crossing a line, but N stops him. He asks Volo how he can prove his love for Pokémon, prompting him to suggest the idea of obtaining an arc suit, as Arceus's blessing would be undeniable proof. Seeing N is open to the idea, Volo leaves. Arven expresses his frustration with Volo's behavior, but N assures him that it must come from a love of Pokémon.
- Attaining an Arc Suit
Later, N finds Leon and Lance as the two train in their arc suits. He asks them how they had demonstrated their bond with their Pokémon, and they both explain it was through tough training. This leads N to meet with Alder and Iris. He explains he would like to redo his challenge of the Pokémon League, as the first time, he was acting under Ghetsis's control. Wanting to prove his bond with Pokémon, he asks to battle both the Elite Four and Iris. Realizing she could use this opportunity to deepen her bonds with her own Pokémon, Iris gladly accepts. Alder warns N that both the Elite Four and Iris have become much stronger over time, but he remains determined.
- The Voices of My Friends
The night before the Arceus Cup, N's friends visit him to offer words of encouragement. The first is Arven, who gives him a sandwich that N plans to share with his Pokémon. Next are Hilbert and Hilda, with the latter eagerly offering to battle in order to help him train. After the two leave, Rosa, Nate, and Hugh visit. Remembering the way N had helped Genesect at the Team Plasma hideout on Pasio, Hugh assures him that he is the kindest Trainer he knows, and should only show Arceus who he already is. Lastly, Silver arrives to encourage N to win the cup, stating that he treats his Pokémon like the family he did not have.
Later that night, as N speaks with Zoroark, he begins to worry that he will be unable to choose one of his Pokémon over the others. He hears Ghetsis's words in his head, calling him a "freak without a human heart." As N doubts himself, Zoroark watches him.
Suddenly, Ghetsis appears behind N. Ghetsis launches into a string of insults directed at him, but he is interrupted by Cheren, who is now standing nearby. Alder appears as well, reassuring N of his humanity and kindness. Moved by their words, N stands up to Ghetsis, denying that he is a "freak." Ghetsis's figure morphs into Zoroark, making N realize they were only illusions. While he teases Zoroark for choosing such an unusual way to cheer him up, he thanks it for taking away his concerns.
At the stadium on the day of the Arceus Cup, Lear commences N's challenge of the Unova Elite Four.
- Rematch vs. Unova's Elite Four
N first faces off against Shauntal, who is happy to notice how much N has changed since he had first battled her. She begins by sending out Cofagrigus, and is surprised to see N call on Sigilyph. Shauntal has Cofagrigus attack, but it surprisingly does little damage. Sigilyph then morphs into Zoroark, which knocks its opponent out with a supereffective hit. Shauntal's next Pokémon is Froslass, who despite landing a strong attack on Zoroark, is ultimately defeated. Shauntal is eventually forced to send out Chandelure, her last Pokémon, which is promptly defeated by Zoroark.
Next, N battles Marshal, swiftly defeating his Machamp with Sigilyph. Marshal then sends out Conkeldurr, who knocks out Sigilyph with a supereffective Rock-type move. N then sends in Zekrom. Conkeldurr stands up to the Legendary Pokémon, but is no match for its strength.
N's battle with Caitlin is then shown, with Zoroark finishing off her Musharna. She sends out Reuniclus, which is soon defeated by Zoroark as well. Surprising N, Caitlin reveals that her final Pokémon is Mega Sableye. The two exchange blows, and a powerful attack from Sableye prompts N to switch out his Pokémon for Reshiram. Sableye fights hard, but Reshiram emerges victorious.
Soon after, N faces off against Grimsley, using his Klinklang to defeat the latter's Liepard. Grimsley switches to Krookodile, who knocks out Klinklang before it is able to attack. N's next Pokémon is Kyurem, who after clashing against Krookodile, is able to defeat it. Grimsley then sends out Bisharp, but its fast movements are too much for Kyurem to handle. N is forced to swap for Reshiram. With a powerful Fire-type move, it defeats Bisharp. Asserting that he is still able to turn the battle around, Grimsley sends Mega Sharpedo to fight. It launches a barrage of attacks against Reshiram, knocking it out. As N sends Zekrom to battle in its place, he shares a look with Grimsley, studying him. Zekrom uses a supereffective Electric-type attack on Sharpedo, winning N the battle.
Iris, dressed in her Champion attire, eagerly waits to face N.
- Formula Recognized by a Deity
Iris approaches N on the battle stage. The two express their excitement at the opportunity to learn more about their Pokémon in a serious battle. Iris and N send out Hydreigon and Kyurem, respectively. Kyurem defeats its opponent, leading Iris to send in Aggron, which quickly knocks it out. After silently apologizing to Hilbert for his Kyurem's fainting, N sends out Zekrom. Zekrom defeats Aggron, as well as Iris's next two Pokémon, Archeops and Lapras. Iris then sends out Naganadel, catching N off guard. The two Pokémon clash at the same time, knocking each other out.
Both down to their last Pokémon, N sends out Zoroark while Iris calls on Haxorus. Realizing Zoroark is running out of energy, N begins to worry. To his surprise, Zoroark morphs into Alder again, reminding him of his first battle against the Champion. N thinks to himself that the battle was a "sad" and "desperate" attempt to carry out a destiny that was not his own. He announces that he sees this battle in a different light, as he is now only a Pokémon Trainer having fun. N feels grateful for the people and Pokémon who have led him this far, deciding at this moment that he only wishes to win alongside Zoroark.
A bright light shines on N, and his clothes transform into an arc suit. Bringing his attention back to the battle, he sends Zoroark forward. It unleashes a powerful sync move, knocking out Haxorus and giving N the victory.
Iris and the Elite Four congratulate N and his team. Watching them, Alder makes a silent commitment to get stronger as well. N then stands with his six Pokémon on the stage, receiving cheers from the audience.
