The MysticTicket was distributed during various Pokémon-related events and occasions in Japan, the United States, and Mexico.

In Japan, the MysticTicket was first distributed during various Pokémon Festa 2004 locations from July 17 to August 15, 2004. Its last known distribution was from December 27, 2006 to January 8, 2007.

In the United States, the Ticket was first distributed at the Nintendo World Store on May 14, 2005. Its final distribution was during the Pokémon Rocks America 2005 tour, from September 17 to October 22, 2005.

In Mexico, the Ticket was distributed only once during the Electronic Game Show, which took place from October 21 to 23, 2005. The distribution was a joint collaboration between Club Nintendo Mexico and Nintendo of America.

In the Nintendo Switch re-release of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, the MysticTicket no longer requires an event distribution as in the original games. Instead, it automatically appears in the player's Bag once the player has become Champion and entered the Hall of Fame with at least one Pokémon that hasn’t previously gotten a Champion Ribbon. If the player defeats the Elite Four using only Pokémon that already have Champion Ribbons, such as traded Pokémon, the MysticTicket will not be added to the Bag. In this case, the player can instead earn the MysticTicket following any Elite Four rematch, assuming a Pokémon without the ribbon is used.
