Mega Sol (Japanese: メガソーラー Mega Solar) is an Ability introduced during Generation IX, in Pokémon Champions. It is the signature Ability of Mega Meganium.

Effect

In battle

Mega Sol causes all moves used by the Pokémon with this Ability to behave as though the weather were harsh sunlight, regardless of the actual weather on the field. When used by a Pokémon with this Ability:

• Solar Beam and Solar Blade are executed in a single turn, instead of requiring a turn to charge, and do not have their power halved when used under rain, sandstorm, or snow.
• Weather Ball is a Fire-type move with a base power of 100.
• Synthesis, Moonlight, and Morning Sun restore ⅔ of the Pokémon's maximum HP.
• Thunder and Hurricane have their accuracy reduced to 50%.
• All Fire-type moves used by the Pokémon have their power increased by 50%, and all Water-type moves used by the Pokémon have their power decreased by 50%.
• Moves ignore the Special Defense boost granted to Rock-type Pokémon during a sandstorm and the Defense boost granted to Ice-type Pokémon during snow.
• Moves ignore any accuracy reduction effects caused by Pokémon with the Abilities Sand Veil and Snow Cloak.

Because Mega Sol does not alter the weather itself, it is unaffected by the weather-negating effect of Cloud Nine.

If a Pokémon with Mega Sol uses Growth and harsh sunlight is not already on the field, the move will have no effect.

Trivia

• Prior to its introduction in Pokémon Champions, Mega Sol was first referenced in Mega Meganium's Pokédex entry from Pokémon Legends: Z-A, despite the absence of Abilities. The entry mentioned "Mega Sol Cannon", referring to a "tremendously powerful" Solar Beam used by Mega Meganium.
  • In addition to this, the moves affected by Mega Sol act similarly to how they would act as Plus Moves in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, such as the aforementioned Solar Beam.
