Route 16 (Japanese: 16番道路Route 16) is a route in central Kalos, connecting Route 15 and Jaune Street of Lumiose City. The route is also known as Mélancolie Path (Japanese: トリスト通りTriste Path).
Route description
Route 16 is a winding route that connects Route 15 in the northeast to Lumiose City in the west. The route is laden with golden yellow leaves which may conceal items or Trainers. On the far northeast end, near the path to Route 15, is an entrance to the Lost Hotel. In the southwest, near the gate to Lumiose City, lays a small pond that's popular among Fishermen. Next to the pond is a small house called the Fishing Shack, from which the player can obtain a Super Rod.
A colored background means that the Pokémon can be found in this location in the specified game. A white background with a colored letter means that the Pokémon cannot be found here.
The in-game maps show Route 16 going directly between Lumiose City and Dendemille Town, even though the route ends at Route 15, just outside Dendemille Town.
Although the Route 16 Gate becomes accessible as soon as Lumiose City's blackout is resolved, a pair of NPCs block access to Route 16 until the player defeats Bryony and Celosia at the Poké Ball Factory, which, itself, is possible only after the player obtains the Fairy Badge.
Name origin
Mélancolie is French for melancholy, while triste is French for sad.
