Kaede sits at a table, looking at a cake with seven candles on it as all of her friends sing her a birthday song. Once the song is over, Kaede's friends wish her a happy birthday. Erika then gives Kaede her gift, which is a bouquet of flowers. However, Kaede is incredibly allergic to flowers and ends up sneezing, causing snot to run down her nose. The rest of her friends laugh and whisper to each other, with Kaede focused on Erika, wondering how she could give her such a gift when she knows she is allergic to flowers.

Several years later, Kaede kneels before Giovanni, who tells her and two of her colleagues of a special mission he needs carried out. He reveals that the Celadon Game Corner is in a tricky situation due to Celadon City's Gym Leader, Erika, and he needs her to be defeated. As he speaks, Kaede is reminded of her seventh birthday and determinedly volunteers herself to take on the mission.

Kaede waits on top of a rooftop of an apartment building alongside her partner Pokémon, Gloom, using binoculars to spy on the Celadon Gym and Erika's mansion, which are situated right beside each other. Kaede's plan is to use a "Gloom Bomb", which is a smoke bomb containing a foul smelling floral powder, likely taken from Gloom itself, to smoke out the gym. As she goes over her plan, she has an allergic reaction to nearby flowers, causing her to drop both the Gloom Bomb and the bazooka she was planning to launch it from. The bomb then blows up in her and Gloom's face, covering them in the foul smell and causing Kaede to sneeze uncontrollably. As she does, a young girl approaches them from behind, asking what the two of them are doing there. When Kaede turns around, the girl realizes she's with Team Rocket, and runs off yelling that Team Rocket is in the flower garden. Kaede then realizes that she's been standing in a flower garden the whole time, remarking that it must be Erika's doing before sneezing again.

Kaede then makes her way down the side of the mansion, quietly sneaking in. Once she makes it into the hallway, she jumps up and holds herself to the ceiling to avoid two people walking by. However, one of the people is holding flowers, which causes Kaede to sneeze, alerting them of her presence. The two of them run off screaming for help, while Kaede decided to get out of there and try again tomorrow. As she tries to make her way out of the building, Kaede's allergic reaction continues, causing her to alert several more people. She declares that Erika must have known she was coming and set all of this up to wear her out before yelling that she wishes flowers didn't exist. Gloom, who has been following closely behind her with a tissue box the whole time, is incredibly hurt by this and freezes in place. Kaede realizes that Gloom has stopped following her, and turns to see that Erika's maids have picked up Gloom. They chastise Kaede, saying that Team Rocket is incapable of understanding the feelings of Pokémon, and that Gloom does not want to go with her. Kaede is shocked, demanding that the two of them release Gloom. Gloom, however, snuggles closer to the maids, and Kaede begins to yell, begging Gloom to come back to her. As she does so, she is reminded of her past and begins to reminisce on her childhood.

As children, Kaede and Erika were incredibly close, always having fun and playing house together. Since a young age, Kaede had a severe allergy to flowers, but Erika was completely oblivious to this, thinking that Kaede loved flowers so much she cried tears of joy. Because of this, Kaede swore of using Grass-type Pokémon, until one day when Erika invited her to pick flowers. Erika made her a flower necklace, which caused Kaede to begin crying. Erika was extremely excited, saying it was so lovely how much she loved flowers. Kaede ran off into the forest, calling Erika awful in her head and declaring that she will never forgive her. As she walks through the forest, it begins to grow dark, and Kaede realizes she's lost. Kaede drops her flower necklace on the ground, but it is picked up by an Oddish who walks out of the dark. The Oddish leads her out of the forest as she holds onto one of its leaves.

Kaede then returns to the present, telling Gloom that it was the one who had saved her back then. Erika's maids keep trying to convince Gloom to leave her side, but Kaede recalls her and Gloom's rigorous training to become outstanding members of Team Rocket. Gloom breaks free from the maid's hands and rushes over to Kaede, jumping into her arms. She then yells that the two of them will show them, yelling out for Gloom to use its Pollen Stench, which knocks the maids out cold.

As Gloom winds down, it turns to Kaede, who sneezes and compliments it. As she does, Erika appears behind her. She is absolutely ecstatic, saying that it's been so long since they've last seen each other. Kaede immediately prepares for battle, declaring that she has also been waiting for their reunion, and that she will get revenge against Erika for all of the things she's done to her. Erika pays no attention to this, instead fawning over Gloom. She sends her Vileplume out of its Poké Ball to show Kaede, but it instead causes her to have an extreme allergic reaction. She falls to the floor in tears, and Erika once again misunderstands her reaction, believing that this is her love for flowers rather than allergies.

Afterwards, Kaede storms off, declaring once again that she'll never forgive Erika and saying that she must have flowers for brains. She says she and Gloom will be able to get revenge next time, as Gloom will soon evolve into a Dark Vileplume. Before she can finish her thought, she begins sneezing again. As she does so, Gloom reminisces on the moment it met Kaede, and how it felt as if it were evolving into a Vileplume from pure joy.
