I've a question

As with both the Advanced Generation and Diamond & Pearl series before it, the Best Wishes series begins with only Ash Ketchum, headed off to a new region with his Pikachu.

So far as I've seen, there is absolutely no confirmation that Ash will even be the main character in this series; Japanese fans are throwing around rumors that he's going to be taking Brock's role. So why is speculative crap like that being presented on this page as fact? We don't know anything about the series, and we shouldn't pretend that we do.

But if I'm wrong by all means, point me towards official confirmation of everything mentioned on this page. 梅子 17:40, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

They're probably just going on tradition. It won't be for a very long while until the series starts, so the sentence can just probably be removed altogether until then. Mudkipchan 18:32, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
It comes from the "leaked" sketch of "Iris" it had Ash in BW Guy Protagonist's clothing. While they may have changed their mind and such, since it looked like a rough/beta sketch. "Iris" does match the silhouette of the BW Anime Heroine, and both "Iris" and Ash were pretty much detailed pretty good, so there is a very likely chance (if that's not confirmation) that Ash will be in the B/W series.--Dman dustin 04:00, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
She never said that Ash wouldn't be in the show, though- more that Ash won't be the main character like he always is, and taking on more of a side role like Brock... ▫▫ティナ 04:05, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Um...is that really true?--Darknesslover5000 02:20, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

The New Girl

I may have overlooked it, but does anyone have a link to any official confirmation that the name of the new heroine is Iris? --Pkmn veteran 03:52, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Now that I've thought about it, I'm assuming the name came from the leaked line art which was on a Chinese site. Correct me if I'm wrong. --Pkmn veteran 02:46, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Yep, that sketch is where people are getting it from. --HoennMaster 03:49, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Air date?

When does this series air?--Darknesslover5000 09:57, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Upon the conclusion of the Diamond & Pearl series. It is currently unknown how many more episodes the DP series will have, so it is unknown what date it will air. Werdnae (talk) 10:08, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
alright. thank you--Darknesslover5000 10:25, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Not confirmed

Some of the info (such as Dawn/Brock leaving) has not been explicitly confirmed. Though Dawn's departure is probable, this inbformation is not accurate as it hasn't been confirmed. I'll edit it out for the meanwhile. Bubblewrap 15:25, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Now, I don't know if anyone's flat out said "BROCK AND DAWN ARE NOT IN THE SHOW" but there's been a few official sources which have more or less said they're both out of the show. --ZestyCactus 15:31, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
(I just realised I can't edit this page!). I know those articles do pretty much confirm it - but I'm sure they could be taken in a different way. We haven't seen any official character images, so we can't say for sure even if it looks very likely. I'm not sure, it's not too big of a problem but I think it could be taken the wrong way. Bubblewrap 15:37, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes we have. Brock and Dawn are gone. TTEchidna 23:57, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Reimu

Is it official? I remember that such name was only used in a description of the anime that was proven false (the same one saying that Koromori was currently being called "Kurimori" and stuff). The author (some guy from Serebii Forums) came and admitted he created it all. - D-Wheel 00:15, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

The TV Tokyo site calls him Dento. --Shiny Noctowl 00:17, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Would it be... "デント"? "Dent"? Sounds... fine, I guess... and somewhat "western", like Iris, Cheren, Bel, Aloe... - D-Wheel 00:29, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
That's what I was thinking, is it Dento, or Dent? Just curious. Like how Iris' is Airisu(not sure if it is right). --Midnight Blue 00:39, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Edit

This page still refers to Dento as Reimu, a rumor which was proved false a long time ago. --Shiny Noctowl 23:42, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Not in the games.

  • The Best Wishes series is the only anime series since the original series to have no game protagonists among Ash's group, and so far the only anime series not to have any characters who appear in the games among Ash's friends.

How do we know this is the case? For all we know they could be gym leaders. - unsigned comment from Billyt506 (talkcontribs)

Gym Leaders don't count. It's referring to Player characters --HoennMaster 15:04, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Then I guess that trivia is wrong. If gym leaders don't count then the original series also falls into this category. --Billt506 14:08, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Well Ash counts as being based on Red, unless Ash doesn't count. Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 14:10, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

dento.jpg Dento by Ken Sugimori User:Hikaru Wazana

Dento is a Game Character.....

On serebii.net, it talks about Dento being a game character, so for now, only Iris is the anime-only character joining Ash's group. So that trivia should be taken down. User:BAC510 August 3rd, 2010 (UTC)

August 3rd, 2010: Dento has been revealed to be a Game Character by Yahoo Japan. There's also a Sugimori Art which confirms this. - unsigned comment from Didich (talkcontribs)

Settle down people. We don't need a million people posting the same thing. It will be updated soon. --HoennMaster 18:39, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Just wanted to point out that there being Sugimori art of a character doesn't prove anything. I mean in this context it's pretty much confirmed that Dento is a game character, but if having Sugimori artwork were the definitive confirmation for being a game character, then all the movie characters would be game characters, too. 梅子 19:43, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Dammit. We're getting rid of the outdated first Gym Leader only to replace him... with the first Gym Leader. TTEchidna 07:54, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Trivia

"The Best Wishes series is the only anime series since the original series to have no in-game playable characters present in Ash's group." How exactly is this true? Brock, Misty and Tracey Sketchit were never player characters. There was Todd Snap sure, but it's not like it specifies that, and he was a temporary traveling companion. Rai Marshall 07:41, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

I think it's because Ash is based on Red.--Pokélova! 07:44, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
I think it refers to May and Dawn joining him in AG and DP. Both of them are counterparts of playable characters in RSE and DPPt. In BW, neither the boy nor the girl from Black and White join him. tc²₆tc26 07:47, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Ash is indeed based on Red, but that piece of trivia specifically mentions 'in-game playable characters present in Ash's group." And the piece of trivia mentions original series, and not AG or DP. Rai Marshall 07:54, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
"The Best Wishes series is the only anime series since the original series to have no in-game playable characters present in Ash's group." Its saying AG and DP have player characters (counterparts), and that the Original and BW series do not. たかはり 07:59, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Oh I get it now, I misread the darn thing. Gee, I'm sorry everyone. Rai Marshall 08:09, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
I read it wrong too. >_< Sorry.--Pokélova! 10:44, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
And Ash is based on an 'in-game playable character' and he is in Ash' group, so the trivia is incorrect this way. Perhaps you should add 'from the most recent generation games' - unsigned comment from Bigtukker (talkcontribs)
Ash's name isn't Red, nor does he have the same clothes. He's more loosely based on a game character, unlike Dawn and May. TTEchidna 08:25, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Interlanguage

Please add [[de:Staffel 14]]. Also, the Japanese link doesn't work (the article does not exist there). Thanks in advance.--Afrael talk 15:23, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Season 14 won't be the BW series, it'll be the first BW season. Like AG isn't season 6, it's 6, 7, 8, and 9, and DP isn't season 10, it's 10, 11, 12, and 13. TTEchidna 08:35, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Dento replacing Brock.

Are we absolutely certain that Dento is the one who replaces Brock? For all we know, he would share that position with Shooti, or that Shooti is the one who actually replaces Brock, and Dento is an actual new character. Weedle Mchairybug 12:00, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Or Shooti replaces Ash. We haven't seen Ash since that leaked character model sheet. TTEchidna 08:33, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
That's not what the article says. --ケンジガール 08:42, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Yeah. 'Cause the best source for Bulbapedia is Bulbapedia. So, the article is always right (but believe me, I've reverted dozens of bad edits which were done because "other article said so"). Don't treat Bulbapedia as a source for itself, it's one of the most annoying things here (but it always happens when a big source becomes reliable). --Maxim 08:46, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
We really need to make any references to Ash transparent, since he has not made any appearances in any promotional materials aside from the leaked concept art, which is proven to be even less reliable for determining something than previews. I mean, we have had countless concept art of Pokemon that would be appearing in Pokemon only for it to turn out that the Pokemon in question never even appeared. Until Ash actually appears in a BW trainer, even for a minute, we shouldn't treat it as though Ash will be appearing in the region. Weedle Mchairybug 12:54, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Ash wasn't in any DP promotion until right before the series started. Just saying. --HoennMaster 19:44, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
This IS right before the series is going to start. We would have gotten something about Ash by now that isn't a character model sheet. I won't completely rule out the possibility, but the fact that they are still keeping Ash out makes the chances of him being the main character less. At this point in AG, we already knew that Ash was in it, and instead we were wondering if Paul replaced Brock. - unsigned comment from Weedle Mchairybug (talkcontribs)
We don't even know when the series starts so we can't technically say it is right before the show starts. Who cares anyway, this discussion is about Brock and Dento, not Ash. --HoennMaster 21:56, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
I only brought up Ash because TTEchidna mentioned it. Not that it matters, though. And yes, we do know when the series starts (It starts the same day Pokemon Black and White is released.). Anyways, we should at the very least remove that bit about Dento replacing Brock as we don't even know the full details. Weedle Mchairybug 23:16, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
No we don't know when the series starts. The anime airs on Thursday and the games are coming out Saturday. They aren't airing the same day. --HoennMaster 00:16, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Premiere Date?

Can anyone confirm if this is real. If so BW is starting September 23. --HoennMaster 22:38, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Air date & Pikachu confirmation

Like on BulbaNews, The air date has been confirmed. And a Pikachu will appear. I'd say add Pikachu, but it's not confirmed it's Ash's Pikachu (We all know what some people are like with concrete confirmation) --samm -- 00:10, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

--Yeah, Ash is in it. See the trailer after DP189. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6-pmMU7_ug&feature=player_embedded

Also, new poster. Should we use this? It looks a lot spiffier than the current one. best-wishes.jpg --YakobTheRed 18:10, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Other Posters

I was wondering, instead of Just the posters going down the article, maybe this?

Other posters

Any ideas?--samm -- 11:22, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Two Things

IDK how this works, but I have two minor suggestions, one being that some sites are reporting that this series will be faster paced, and Ash's Facial redesign, he no longer has Black small eyes, but big brown eyes, thats pretty significant after ten years- unsigned comment from PokeExtreme (talkcontribs)

something of note

(I'm new to this stuff so don't berate me) Should someone add to the trivia that the shell on mijumaru's belly is missing on the poster?

reubenator

The shell is in its hand. The anime has shown that it can remove the shell and use it like a weapon, hence the shell in its hand not on its chest. Werdnae (talk) 10:54, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

New Trivia

Can someone add a trivia piece stating the Isshu arc of the anime is the first regional arc not to begin on the same say as its respective games since Gold and Silver and the Johto saga? --HoennMaster 14:37, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

B W

So, I noticed that there's no mention of the fact that "Best Wishes" starts with the same letters as "Black & White". Is this not notable enough or something? Ztobor 00:11, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Running gag

Should it be noted that a running gag within the series is where something comes towards Ash, Iris and Dent, and Iris allways gets away from it, while Ash and Dent are hit by it. Just a thought. --samm -- 21:25, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

It's happened like what? Twice? I don't think that's enough to consider it a running gag Ataro 21:28, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Well how many episode does it take? if it happened twice in the same episode then sure that's not even close to a running gag but if it happened in more that one episode, does it need to be 3 episodes it happens in? 5? 10? if we add it an then never see it again we can always remove it, people seem to forget that when you add something to this wiki it's not concrete we can remove it later on. —Mada-sama (Talk to me!)— 00:24, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
It should happen at least five times before we can even consider it. It only happened twice, two eps in a row I might add, and hasn't happened since. --ケンジガール 00:29, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Oh I see. But why is it 5 times? Can you point me in the direction of where this was discussed previously? I'd greatly appreciate it. —Mada-sama (Talk to me!)— 23:22, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
It was never discussed. I just gave what I thought was a reasonable amount. Yeah, I know there are some things that have less, like Pikachu destroying female character's bikes. But it was more clearly defined. This, on the other hand, could have very well been a coincidence. --ケンジガール 01:47, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

About the series name again

I was looking at the seasons of the Diamond and Pearl series. I want you guys to see the titles of the seasons during the series. I'll list them here:

Notice how the titles changed after the initial season of DP. Instead of just being "Pokémon:", it became "Pokémon Diamond and Pearl:". So my question is, what happens if they do the same thing with Best Wishes?

It wasn't a real big deal because Diamond and Pearl was the name of the Japanese series. But what would happen if the season after Black & White! was named, for example, "Pokémon Black & White: Plasma Adventures"? I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be called "Pokémon Best Wishes: Plasma Adventures".

If it does happen, do we keep the series at the current title of "Best Wishes" or move it to "Black & White"? I realize it isn't something we have to worry about now, but it is something we should take in to consideration. --ケンジガール 06:04, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Not really. The Japanese and English versions are divided differently. Series applies to the Japanese version, Seasons apply to the English version. --HoennMaster 06:06, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
I thought about it earlier and discussed it with trom but she gave the same reason that Josh thrown at my face. We should just leave it as it is i.e Best Wishes even if it's Black & White: etc. I guess we don't have a choice. ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 06:13, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
why can't I change the page title to Black and white series?--Celibi25 21:54, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Read I already said why. --HoennMaster 22:43, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

English Best Wishes Logo?

Someone should put the English logo for Bets Wishes in the article somewhere since the Japanese Logo is in there.

Here's the link to Cartoon Network's logo for Pokemon: Black & White! - unsigned comment from Bellsprout (talkcontribs)

Black_and_White_anime_banner.png

No. Black and White is the name of the 14th DUB season. The Japanese version does not use seasons, they use series, and series and seasons are not the same. --HoennMaster 20:05, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Kanto Roots

Wouldn't it be easier to just say that Best Wishes is a lot like Kanto in the Original series and then list them going down? Like this:

  • The Best Wishes series is a lot like Kanto in the Original Series:
    • Unlike Johto, Hoenn or Sinnoh, Ash starts off in his room doing similar things from EP001 in BW001.
    • Like Kanto (and Johto as well), Ash has caught all three of the starter Pokémon of the region he is in.
    • The Best Wishes series is fast-paced, much like Kanto was.
    • Like Kanto, Ash travels with two gym leaders native to the region he is in.
      • However, in Kanto it was the 1st and 2nd Gym Leaders (Brock & Misty respectively) and now it is the 1st and 8th Gym Leaders (Iris & Cilan respectively).
    • Ash caught more than five Pokémon in Best Wishes which he hasn't done since Kanto.
      • However, Ash got to pick which Pokémon to put in Professor Juniper's Laboratory in Best Wishes when in Kanto, Krabby went straight to Professor Oak.

So, that is what I have. Of course if that is too much, I can trim it down a little bit.Torpoleon 13:17, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Iris isn't a Gym Leader in the Anime though. Plus, this is kind of vague to be trivia worthy. Zarthga 22:10, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Is this trivia worthy?

All main characters have a electric type Pokémon that will not evolve. either because it can't like Iris's Emolga and Cilan's Stunfisk or it doesn't want to like Ash's Pikachu. - unsigned comment from Pokemonboy3000 (talkcontribs)

Also 2 electric types are opposites Emolga is part flying while Stunfisk is part ground and the last one Pikachu is pure so its in the middle. - unsigned comment from Pokemonboy3000 (talkcontribs)

Emolga nor Stunfisk evolve. Pikachu can't, but it doesn't. Not trivia worthy. ~ Blitzamirin ~ 21:54, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Yes and Stunfisk and Emolga are the only non legendary electric types introduced in unova that don't evolve.--Pokemonboy3000 22:35, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Look, we are not supposed to add trivia and it's not notable. That's it. Ataro 23:02, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Someday 'Best Wishes' page should be changed...

Since the second season of the 'Best Wishes' in North America is already out and called 'Pokémon Black and White: Rival Destinies', I am just thinking for future reference, that it's notable that America probably sees it as the 'Black and White' series. I'm not saying it should be changed now, however if the next season also has "Black and White" in the title, it should be more considered. Zarthga 22:06, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Series only apply to Japan, not the US. The US uses seasons, therefore this needs to remain as "Best Wishes". --HoennMaster 22:14, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
Ah, okay, I got it. Zarthga 22:16, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Outfitwise

Shouldn't it be noted that this is the first/only series where Ash is not wearing the main outfits from the other series in this one? He wore his AG outfit in the end of the original series, his original series outfit was seen in flashbacks of Gathering the Gang of Four (although one of the flashbacks was an error) and possibly in Max's debut episode, and kept his AG outfit on during the first and second episode of Diamond and Pearl. PattyMan 19:19, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Season 2?

Shouldn't we be making a bigger deal of the fact Best Wishes is the first series where the Japanese version is split into seasons? Like, we've had Season 1, Season 2, and Season 2: Episode N, and Season 2: Decolora Adventures has been announced -- it kinda looks like seasons are here to stay. Is this going to be the next season title? I just recently found this out on the Cartoon Network website. Maybe later on, Pokémon.com will confirm it. NO SPECULATIONS FOR NOW! JUST ASKING... AwesomeDJPokémon 05:15, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

So here's the thing, I have been looking through the next episode (BW123) on Pokémon.com and suddenly I was shocked to see that they renamed the 16th season to 'BW: Adventures in Unova and Beyond' to indicate that their journeys are not only in the Unova region anymore but to the Decolora Archipelago starting with BW123 onwards. So my question is... what are we going to do we this??? —AwesomeDJPokémon 08:15, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

Because we write section headers in section case rather than title case and because "version" is not part of a title, the first subheader under "Seasons" should read "Japanese version seasons" or, preferably, "Japanese seasons", not "Japanese Version seasons" as it currently reads.
