A Repel (Japanese: スプレー Spray) is an item which lets the player walk a certain number of steps without encountering wild Pokémon with a lower level than the first member in the player's party. It is manufactured by Silph Co., and is sold in most Poké Marts. Its design is that of an aerosol spray and is similar to insect repellent. It is available in three strengths.

In Black 2 and White 2, a dialog pops up after a Repel runs out, asking if the player wants to use another one.

Repels can be used to only encounter certain wild Pokémon using a method known as the Repel trick.

Trivia

  • The Super Repel is more cost-effective than the Max Repel (the Super Repel gives one step per $2.5 while the Max Repel gives one step per $2.8). However, when buying Max Repels in bulk from a Join Avenue market, they can be cheaper than the same amount of Super Repels at a Poké Mart.
  • Interestingly if any Repel is given to the games Pokemon Colosseum or Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness and attempts to use them in those games the message "This item cannot be used in the Orre Region" will display and not allow the player to use the item. More interestingly is the fact that the item still keeps the USE function possibly to indicate an early idea of utilizing wild pokemon not like Gale of Darkness's Poké Spots but more like finding in grass patches, caves and so on.
