These are the updates to Pokémon Shuffle and Pokémon Shuffle Mobile.

3DS

Version 1.0.x

Version 1.1.x

Version 1.2.x

The top screen as shown in Version 1.2.1

Version 1.2.0 became available on the Nintendo eShop on May 26, 2015. This update provides a significant number of new features and bug fixes.

  • Hearts are separated into regenerating Hearts and bonus Hearts (obtained either from StreetPass or exchanging Jewels). Regenerating Hearts are capped at 5, and will always be used instead of the bonus Hearts if there are any. Bonus hearts are capped at 99. Any Hearts that the players had before the update are now treated as bonus Hearts, and the player's regenerating Hearts start off at 5 after installing the update.
  • A candy icon now appears in the top right corner of the Mega Effect descriptions, with "0/x" next to it. The value of x depends on the species of the Pokémon; it differs even between Pokémon with the same Mega Effect and seems to be tied with how long each Pokémon takes to Mega Evolve. Version 1.2.2 reveals this indicates the maximum number of Mega Speedup enhancements that may be used on that Pokémon.
  • Levels and experience points are now displayed on the Optimize screen.
  • After successfully completing a Stage, if the players fail to catch a Pokémon with their first Poké Ball (before using a Great Ball), they have a chance of being offered a "Super Catch Power". This Super Catch Power provides a somewhat random boost on top of the Great Ball's boost (players still uses a Great Ball, and can use the same number of Great Balls as they could without the "Super Catch Power").
  • After successfully catching a Pokémon, its Attack power and Skill are now displayed on the top screen, in the same way as when selecting Pokémon for a stage.
  • The Skill "Block Bash" has been renamed "Block Smash", and the "Bonbon Boulevard" area has been renamed "Sweet Strasse".
  • If the players leave a stage select screen and later returns to it, it will reappear exactly as the players left it. Previously, the screen would be focused on the last available stage in that category.
  • New mechanics added to detect cheating and remove such entries from Competitive Stages. Such removed entries are given the lowest possible rank. Any cheating player must legitimately beat the score used from cheating to rank in the competition again; this means if players submit a score of 50,000 and is removed, players cannot submit a new score unless they can score 50,001.
  • It prevents going to the Home menu by pressing the Home button during timed stages while the timer is running. Previously, this exploit could be used to view the board without a timer in both Expert Stages and Competitive Stages.
  • It fixes a bug which caused some non-Mega Evolved icons of the lead Pokémon to appear after Mega Evolution on Stage 176 (Timburr).
  • It fixes a bug which prevented Mewtwo from Mega Evolving into Mega Mewtwo Y, and from being selected as the lead Pokémon when using the Optimize button.

Version 1.3.x

The title screen as it appears in Version 1.3.0

Version 1.3.0 was available from the Nintendo eShop on March 23, 2016. This update provides several new features and bug fixes:

Changes:

  • Mission Cards that give rewards for clearing stages with certain conditions are added. These rewards even included Mega Stones that formerly had limited availability like the Lucarionite. Cards #1-3 have been added.
  • Survival Mode is added. This mode is unlocked upon clearing Stage 150.
  • New Enhancements added (Raise Max Level, Level Up, Exp. Booster S, Exp. Booster M, Exp. Booster L, Skill Booster S, Skill Booster M and Skill Booster L).
  • Some Pokémon now able to go beyond Level 10 due to the Raise Max Level item.
    • With that, some Pokémon can now be raised up to Level 15.
  • Ditto no longer works as a "wild card" when matching Pokémon icons. This was done in response to players hacking in the Pokémon to get high scores in Competitive Stages.
  • Some Main Stages allow players to skip them based on some unknown criteria.
  • New Pokémon added to the database.
  • The Skill "Flap" now works on all types instead of only Ground.
  • SpotPass Functionality added to allow for news on updates to be sent automatically to the 3DS.
  • If the player has purchased between 5 and 9 Jewels in a month, regenerated hearts can go up to 6 and 600 coins are obtained with each Check-in. If the player has purchased over 10 Jewels in a month, regenerated hearts can go up to 7 and 700 coins are obtained with each Check-in. This lasts until the end of the month the Jewels were purchased in.
  • Meowth and Victini stages can be replayed in the same day, at the cost of 1 Jewel.
  • It fixes a glitch that caused matches shaped like an "L" or upside-down "T" to activate Skills twice.

Aesthetic & UI Changes

  • The title screen has changed from a pink color scheme to a green color scheme.
  • New fonts and borders have been added throughout the game.
  • Player's info now shows "Best Survival Mode Record".
  • A counter has been added to the upper-right corner of the top screen while viewing Main or Expert Stages. This counter shows how many Pokémon the player have caught out of the amount currently available.
  • An area select tab has been added to the top of the touch screen. This tab lists each area, as well as how many Pokémon have been caught and how many S-ranks have been obtained for each area. Tapping an area in this list allows for quick travel to the first stage of that area.
  • The Special Stage area now has scroll buttons identical to those in the Main and Expert Stages. The previous absence of these buttons limited only 5 events to occur at a given time, so this change has removed that limit.
  • All Main Stage Mega Pokémon stages, all Expert Stages, and several difficult Main Stages now display a "recommended level" ranging from 1 to 10 when selected. It is suggested that the player's Pokémon be around this level before attempting the corresponding stage. This does not appear on event stages.
  • Amelia returns to introduce a new recommended-Pokémon system. Each Pokémon is ranked from zero to three token-like icons (which resemble Amelia's face), based on some unknown criteria related to usefulness. The more icons a Pokémon has, the more the game recommends that players catch and use it. These icons are visible while browsing stages, as well as when players look at Pokémon in the Pokémon List.
  • Silhouettes of Pokémon that will appear in the following Expert Stages beyond what the player has unlocked is added, with a note showing how many S Ranks the player has.
  • In Competitive Stage rankings, in addition to the Top 5, the cut-off scores for each prize tier are now displayed. An arrow indicates which prize tier the player's current score qualifies for. The Top 5 and tier rankings are displayed on the touch screen rather than the top screen, while the top screen now displays the player's high score, ranking, and what team was used to get that score.
  • Pokémon Safari is now displayed as an orange question mark, as in the mobile version, rather than a black question mark.
  • In Pokémon Safari stages, silhouettes and icons are shown of the Pokémon that haven't and have been caught respectively. When the player has caught all available Pokémon in a safari, they receive a congratulatory message.
  • After selecting a stage but before selecting "Continue", pressing and holding the icon of a Pokémon from the current team will show its full Pokémon List description on the top screen. This also works in the pause menu during a stage.
  • The value of the Experience gained for each individual Pokémon is shown at the end of each stage.
  • The "Level Up" wordings now only flashes once after leveling up, rather than flashing repeatedly until the player exited the results screen.
  • Remaining experience to level up are now listed on the Pokémon List.
  • When scrolling through the Pokémon List, arrows indicating type effectiveness are now visible without having to first select the Pokémon.
  • If a Mega Stone has been obtained but the corresponding Pokémon has not been caught, then the Pokémon's icon appears as a silhouette when searching for Pokémon that can Mega Evolve. The Mega Stone is displayed in the small circle next to the silhouette.
  • Charizard and Mewtwo will no longer appear when searching for Dragon-type or Fighting-type Pokémon respectively. This error was likely caused due to Mega Charizard X and Mega Mewtwo X changing to those types upon Mega Evolving.
  • When searching through the Pokémon List, the search criteria is set to "Caught Pokémon" by default rather than "All Pokémon"
  • The option to search for Super Effective Pokémon has been added to the search menu's "Type" drop-down menu.
  • Additionally, a shortcut button has been added to the top left of the search results screen, to allow for quick switching to this criteria's results.
  • A blue exclamation mark appears next to stages that have not been played yet.
  • Mega Diancie makes a different noise when removing Pokémon.
  • The design for the arrows that indicate Super Effective and Not Very Effective has been changed from three small arrows to a single large arrow.
  • When the game is closed, the player's last position is saved, and players are returned to that position upon reopening the game. For example, if players were to close the game while at the Meowth stage, then they would start there upon reopening the game. Prior to this update, players would always start at the furthest Main Stage that they had unlocked. If the last stage played was a Special Stage, then the game starts at Main Stage 1 instead.

The Title screen as it appears in Version 1.4.14

Version 1.4.0 became available on the Nintendo eShop on March 8, 2017. This update adds several aesthetic and functional changes, many of which were introduced in Mobile version 1.9.0.

Aesthetic & UI Changes

  • The 3DS home menu launch screen has changed to include the Alola starters rather than the Kanto starters.
  • The title screen has changed from a green border to a yellow border and shows the Alola Starters rather than the Kanto Starters.
  • Several Pokémon have had the color and/or size of their icons altered. Affected Pokémon include Castform, Charizard, Deoxys, Diancie, Gardevoir, Gengar, Hawlucha, Hippopotas, Hippowdon, Ho-Oh, Metagross, Mewtwo, Tyranitar, Vivillon, Wobbuffet, Xerneas, and Yveltal.
  • The previously-unlabeled area that includes Main Stages 500-550 has been named Nacht Carnival.
  • If a stage can drop items such as personalized Skill Boosters, then the stage's world map icon will display a present box. If such a stage's Pokémon has had its Skill level increased to maximum and no other drops are available, then the present box will disappear.
  • When starting a stage after selecting items to use, there is no longer a confirmation box before the stage begins.
  • When sorting Pokémon in the Pokémon List, selecting to sort by Attack Power or Level will automatically sort in descending order rather than the default ascending. Sorting by Pokédex number or by name is unchanged, and still defaults to ascending order.
  • It adds the ability to go directly to the stages mentioned on the Notice Board and on the Mission Card.
  • After a Pokémon has been captured, Amelia tokens will no longer appear on its world map icon. However, the icons are still visible on the window that appears when the stage is selected.
  • When using various items (Exp. Boosters, Skill Boosters, Mega Speedups, etc.) on Pokémon, the game will gives an option to continue using them (if there are multiple items). Previously, the item had to be dragged onto the Pokémon once for each usage.
  • Difficulty rating for stages is now on a scale of 1-5 rather than 1-10.
  • Competitive Stages now have a golden laurel background on their world map icon, as opposed to a grassy patch.
  • Escalation Battles now display a Poké Ball on their world map icon if the Pokémon has been caught. However, the window that appears when selecting the stage still does not display a Poké Ball.
  • If a Pokémon gains experience after completing a stage, a sound will play during the experience-gain animation after the stage ends. This sound is the same as the one played when Skill Boosters are used.
  • When an Expert Stage is unlocked, the notification window that appears now shows the name and icon of the Pokémon in that stage.

Functional Changes

  • The Skills "Mind Zap" and "Prank" can no longer activate if the enemy Pokémon is afflicted by a Disruption Delay or has a status effect such as Burn or Sleep.
  • If a Streetpassed player has not updated to 1.4.0, then they will not be added to the Streetpass List and the pass will not count towards heart or gem rewards. However, the 3DS home menu icon will still display a green dot, and the records tab visible on the world map will still display a blue dot if such a pass is received.
  • Players are awarded with 30 banked hearts and 10,000 coins upon Check-in after updating to version 1.4.0.

Version 1.5.x

The title screen as shown in Version 1.5.11

Version 1.5.0 became available on the Nintendo eShop on January 9, 2018. This update adds several aesthetic and functional changes.

Aesthetic & UI Changes

  • The title screen has been changed to have a blue-striped background lined with yellow and orange Poké Balls on the top screen, and a yellow-and-orange-striped background with sparkles on the bottom screen.
  • The Select Zone menu tab has been moved to the top-right of the touch screen rather than the top-middle. Additionally, the word "Stages" has been removed from the zone buttons in this menu - for example, "Stages 121 to 135" now simply says "121 to 135".
  • The arrows used to navigate the world map have been moved to the top-left and top-right corners of the touch screen, rather than the middle-left and middle-right.
  • A credits button has been added to the records tab.
  • After a stage has been played once after this update, the most recent team used to play that stage will be saved. When the arrow button to the right of the optimize button is pressed, the most recent saved team for that stage will be used. If a stage has not been played before, then the arrow button will be dimmed and will not work. This feature was introduced in Mobile version 1.10.0.
  • When filtering Pokémon in the Pokémon List, there is now an option to filter by "Not Caught".
  • In the Pokémon List, all Pokémon that have not yet been caught will now display a question mark over their touch screen icon, as well as displaying the name and a faded icon of the Pokémon on the top screen. Previously, Pokémon would only be displayed this way if they were fought in a stage but not caught, and Pokémon that had never been fought or captured at all would display a black silhouette with no name.
  • On special stages, a second button has been added next to the info button when the stage is selected from the world map. The button will open a window with more information, but its purpose varies with the stage type:
    • On Escalation Battle stages, the button reads "Rewards" and the window lists the rewards for reaching milestone stage levels in that Escalation Battle.
    • On Safari stages, the button reads "Pokémon" and the window lists all of the Pokémon that can be encountered in that Safari.
    • On Try 'Em Items stages, the button is not present.
    • On most other stages, the button will read "Drops" and the window will display the 3 items that the stage can drop. If a stage cannot drop any items, then the window will display "None". If a stage has a chance to drop the same type of item multiple times, then that item will be listed multiple times (for example, if a stage can only drop Personalized Skill Boosters, then that item will be listed 3 times).
  • The colored border near the bottom of the touch screen will now change color and design depending on the current Zone's design. This feature was present in version 1.0.x but was removed at some unknown date, changing all of the borders to be one uniform type. Since the Zone designs used for Wacky Workshop and Pedra Valley were not accessible to players before the borders were removed, the borders they have received in this update are brand new.

Functional Changes

  • Trainer rank has been added. A player's rank will increase depending on how many unique species of Pokémon they have captured, but Pokémon that share the same list number (such as alternate forms) will only be counted once. When a player's Trainer rank is increased, they can earn rewards such as Enhancements, Mega Stones, Jewels and coins. These rewards can be redeemed from a new tab added to the top-left of the touch screen. Additionally, a bar displaying the player's Trainer rank has been added to the top screen.
  • Check-in bonuses have been expanded to include hearts, items, and Enhancements on a 15-day schedule. Tapping the Check-in button will now display a stamp card of the schedule on the top screen. The coin rewards from the previous Check-in system are still present, but the message upon receiving them simply lists the coins received and no longer thanks the player for checking in. It's not necessary to check in every day consecutively to receive the next daily reward, and the cycle repeats every 15 check-ins.
  • The Pikachu (Celebration) given as rewards for Celebration Challenge are now set for each of the 12 months of the year as follows:
    • January - Pikachu (Celebration: Lion Dancer)
    • February - Pikachu (Celebration: Kotatsu)
    • March - Pikachu (Celebration: Graduate)
    • April - Pikachu (Celebration: Intern)
    • May - Pikachu (Celebration: Children's Day)
    • June - Pikachu (Celebration: Rainy Season)
    • July - Pikachu (Celebration: Summer Festival)
    • August - Pikachu (Celebration: Beach Walk)
    • September - Pikachu (Celebration: Pastry Chef)
    • October - Pikachu (Celebration: Artist)
    • November - Pikachu (Celebration: Mushroom Harvest)
    • December - Pikachu (Celebration: Year's End)
  • Players who have yet to unlock all Main Stages now have the option to spend Jewels to unlock them. Stages are unlocked in sets that cost 2 Jewels up through Stage 240, and 3 Jewels for any sets afterwards.

Mobile

Version 1.0.x

Version 1.1.x

Version 1.2.x

Version 1.2.0 became available on November 3, 2015. This update makes several graphical and functional changes to the user interface.

Changes:

  • A counter has been added to the upper-left corner of the screen while viewing Main or Expert Stages. This counter shows how many Pokémon the players have caught out of the amount currently available. For example, at the time of the 1.2.0 update, the counter shows x/168 while viewing Main Stages, and x/20 while viewing Expert Stages.
  • The Poké Ball and ranking icons that can appear next to a stage have been changed. Rather than appearing as a small icon above the ranking, the Poké Ball has been enlarged and now acts as a backdrop for the ranking.

Version 1.3.x

Version 1.3.0 became available on December 9, 2015. This update makes a few graphical changes to the user interface, and features the return of Amelia.

Changes:

  • Amelia returns to introduce a new recommended-Pokémon system. Each Pokémon is ranked from zero to three token-like icons (which resemble Amelia's face), based on some unknown criteria related to usefulness. The more icons a Pokémon has, the more the game recommends that players catch and use it. These icons are visible while browsing stages, as well as when players look at Pokémon in the Pokémon List.
  • When the game is closed, the player's last position is saved, and players are returned to that position upon reopening the game. For example, if players were to close the game while at the Meowth stage, then they would start there upon reopening the game. Prior to this update, players would always start at the furthest Main Stage that they had unlocked.
  • The rank symbol appearing after clearing a stage flashes continuously.
