Nihei physically debuted in The Legend of the Ninja Hero!, where he was making preparations for the village festival. He welcomed Sanpei, when he returned to the village, accompanied by Ash and his his friends. He then had Pokémon battle with Sanpei to test his brother's strength, and managed to win despite having the type disadvantage.

While the brothers did their best, the enemy forces suddenly retreated after achieving their main aim - kidnapping Hanzo. Thanks to Saizo, Nihei joined the others and headed for Otori Mountain to save Hanzo.

Upon arriving at Otori Mountain, the group got attacked by Heidayu and the ninja army. In A Festival of Decisions!, Nihei used his Venusaur to battle the enemy ninjas, alongside Serena, Clemont and Shinobu. They eventually managed beat them, while Ippei defeated Kagetomo and saved Hanzo.
