Lana's Popplio (Japanese: スイレンアシマリ Suiren's Ashimari) is Lana's first known Pokémon.

History

Lana and Popplio

Prior to its debut, Popplio was bullied by multiple Team Skull Grunts. Lana, furious at what was happening, attacked them with a Poké Ride Lapras's Ice Beam, freezing the group solid. She then used a fishing rod to pull it to safety. Lana then took Popplio to heal its wounds. Lana decided to personally feed and care for Popplio, as she did not want it to be afraid of humans in the future. Popplio quickly warmed up to her, and became her partner Pokémon.

Popplio first appeared in Alola to New Adventure! alongside its Trainer, fishing for wild Pokémon. Once Ash comes to the Pokémon School, it helps in welcoming him. Popplio later watched very concered as Team Skull Grunts battle Kiawe.

The following day Popplio is used to help welcome Ash to the school, competing in Lana's challenge against Ash and Pikachu, competing in a race. The race begins on the ground where Popplio quickly falls behind compared to Pikachu's speed. Once it reaches the water section of the race, Popplio immediately catches up to Pikachu, swiftly moving through the water. Popplio finishes first, receiving praise from Lana and the others watching.

In SM005, Lana has Popplio train on its Water Balloon, hoping to increase its size. After a few tries, Popplio manages to make one multiple times its normal size, but is unable to retain it for long, resulting with it dousing Lana and Ash. The following day, Popplio helps Lana fish for Water-type Pokémon. Soon after, the Poké Ride Lapras are stolen by Team Rocket's air balloon. Pikachu succeeds in breaking them free, but everyone quickly notices that they are positioned directly over spiked rocks. Popplio swims at high speeds towards the rocks and quickly makes a giant Water Balloon that the Lapras fall on, bouncing them away from the rocks safely into the water. It then uses its Water Balloon to counter Jessie's Mimikyu's Shadow Ball, while Ash has his Rowlet break the hot air balloon with Leafage.

Personality and characteristics

Popplio is a very happy and playful Pokémon, often seen playing and clapping in excitement. Initially afraid of people, Popplio quickly warms up to them thanks to Lana. Popplio is very close with its Trainer, as its seen being very joyful when praised by her and is often seen in her arms.

	Description:Popplio is able to make Water Balloons of varying size. The balloons are able to hold people and Pokémon inside of it, allowing those inside to breath underwater. The balloons can also be used as an attack, able to be fired at opponents and reflect attacks.

• Popplio is the first Starter Pokémon to be owned by a main character prior to the start of the series.
