If a Pokémon is grounded, it can be affected by Ground-type attacks and other effects that generally lay upon the ground.
Ungrounded Pokémon
Several characteristics may make a Pokémon ungrounded.
A Pokémon is ungrounded if it:
- has the Flying type,
- has the Ability Levitate,
- is holding an Air Balloon,
- uses Magnet Rise (or is passed its effect), or
- is the target of Telekinesis (or is passed its effect).
Grounded Pokémon
By default, grounded Pokémon are simply those that are not ungrounded. However, there are also several effects that will negate a Pokémon's ungrounded status, making it grounded.
A Pokémon will be grounded if it:
- is holding an Iron Ball,
- uses Ingrain (or is passed its effect),
- is hit by Smack Down (or is passed its effect), or
- is under the effects of Gravity (affects whole field, lasts 5 turns).
Immunities of ungrounded Pokémon
Ungrounded Pokémon are immune to all damaging Ground-type attacks.
Ungrounded Pokémon are also immune to:
- the entry hazards Spikes, Toxic Spikes, and Sticky Web;
- the terrain-altering moves Misty Terrain, Grassy Terrain, and Electric Terrain;
- the Ability Arena Trap; and
- the damaging turn of the move Sky Drop*.
