Floaroma Town (Japanese: ソノオタウン Sonō Town) is a town in the region of Sinnoh, known for its honey and vividly scented flowers that grow everywhere. It is the first area where Berries from non-player characters are available in Generation IV. Notable landmarks include the Pick a Peck of Colors Flower Shop in the middle of town, the Floaroma Meadow found to the north, and an anime-exclusive Contest Hall. A girl with a Clefairy hands out TM88 (Pluck) here.

In Pokémon Platinum, Floaroma Town will apparently have a wooden arch at its southern entrance, among other things.

History and Tradition

According to the townspeople, Floaroma Town was once a barren and desolate hill. People started planting flowers around it to cheer up the place, but nothing would grow. Then, someone expressed thanks for a blessing of nature, and the whole hill burst into bloom. It is theorized that Shaymin was the cause of the sudden burst of flowers, given it being the Gratitude Pokémon, and its ability to "instantly transform ruined land into a lush field of flowers", according to its Pokédex entry.

Pick a Peck of Colors Flower Shop

The Pick a Peck of Colors Flower Shop is one of the chief landmarks of Floaroma Town. Notably, it is in this florist where the player in-game can get his or her first berries, which are found planted on the outside and given out daily by a woman inside. Another woman in the Flower Shop gives out the Sprayduck watering can (the equivalent of Hoenn's Wailmer Pail) to the player, allowing him or her to water berry plants, which makes them grow a greater amount of berries. The blonde woman behind the counter in the Flower Shop gives out accessories for Pokémon Super Contests in exchange for a certain amount of berries.

Floaroma Meadow

The Floaroma Meadow (Japanese: ソノオのはなばたけ Sonō Flowerbed) is an area found north of Floaroma Town proper, but still part of the town according to the Town Map. On the southernmost end, accessed through Floaroma Town, a single honey tree can be found beside a house. Also, a man can be found selling honey for $100. The northern end can only be accessed once the player acquires and is able to use HM03 (Surf), after defeating Fantina in Hearthome City. It is accessed by going south of the Fuego Ironworks area. At first sight, it might appear as a simple plain filled with flowers and two items: a Miracle Seed and a Leaf Stone. However, if inspected closely with the Pokétch's Dowsing Machine, several hidden items can be found: two Revive, two jars of Honey, a regular, Super, Hyper, and Max Potion, a Full Heal, an Antidote, and a Parlyz Heal.

In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, this meadow was originally blocked by two Team Galactic grunts. They are later found trying to steal all the honey from the aforementioned honey salesman, but the player engages in a battle with them and defeats them. Only after this is done can Honey be bought from the man. The key to Valley Windworks is given to the player soon after.

Contest Hall

Found only in the anime, the Floaroma Contest Hall was featured in Getting the Pre-Contest Titters! and Settling a Not-So-Old Score!. In it, Dawn participated in a contest with her Piplup. Jessie participated in the contest but was defeated in the first battle round by Dawn. Kenny, a childhood friend and rival of Dawn, also debuted and participated in the contest with his Prinplup. Dawn finally won her first Ribbon in this contest, by narrowly defeating Kenny in the final battle round.

Demographics

The population of the town in-game is 20, a rather high number for such a small town. Apparently this is caused by the alluring aroma of the typical flowers and honey of the town.

Trivia

  • Floaroma's Japanese town motto is あざやかに はなかおる まち.

Name origin

Floaroma is probably derived from flora, referring to plants; and aroma, a scent.
