This card was released as a promotional card. In Japan, it came with ''Understand How to Play Pokémon Cards Now: Newest Edition'' (Asobikata Volume 2), released in November 1998. The early print of the card termed ''Asobikata Dugtrio'' was printed on regular card stock. The artwork was later reprinted in {{TCG|Pokémon Web}}; however, this version was printed in the [[e-Reader]] format. The original version of the card is therefore much rarer than its Web reprint counterpart. A sealed copy of the Asobikata Magazine which contained this card along with its counterpart {{TCG ID|Asobikata|Diglett|promo}} was included in the {{TCG|Quick Starter Gift Set}}.
