History

Dawn and Pachirisu

Dawn captured Pachirisu in Twice Smitten, Once Shy, where it was shown to have a very hyperactive and mischievous personality. Due to its behavior and her inability to control it, Dawn felt that she had failed Pachirisu as a Trainer and released it. However, she realized her mistake and went back to get it, only to find that Jessie also wanted it. It managed to defeat Team Rocket and Dawn recaptured it.

At the beginning, Pachirisu had difficulty in controlling its electric moves and often used Discharge to give Dawn a bad hair. However, after some training with Dawn, it was gradually able to use them effectively and has stopped ruining Dawn's hair. This new control was seen in its first contest, where it was used in the appeal round of the Floaroma contest. It earned Dawn a place in the battle rounds. It was also used in the Hearthome contest double appeal rounds with Piplup. However, this time Dawn was not able to make it past the appeal round.

Pachirisu became ill in Doc Brock! from storing too much electricity, similar to Pikachu did in AG001, but it soon recovered with the help of Ash, Dawn, Brock and the rest of their team of Pokémon.

Like May's Munchlax's obsession with Pokéblocks, Pachirisu loved Poffins and once started a rivalry with Ursala's Gabite because the Dragon-type had stepped on its Poffin. It avenged its Poffin's memory by defeating Gabite in the final round of the Chocovine Town contest with its newly learned Super Fang. This also gave Dawn her fourth ribbon.

In Strategy Begins at Home!, it battled alongside Piplup against Johanna's Glameow and Umbreon. However, it was defeated by Johanna's powerful strategy.

Pachirisu appears to have a fear of ice, as seen in DP150, where it was temporarily paired up with Dawn's Mamoswine in order to make a Double Performance using its Discharge and Mamoswine's Ice Shard but failed in making it work due to its fear.

In DP159, Dawn used Pachirisu to lead a Metagross and a Magnezone that were fighting away from the town that was feeling the wrath of their battle.

Trivia

  • Dawn's capture of Pachirisu marks the first time a main character has ever caught an Template:Type2 Pokémon (Ash received his Pikachu), and it is the first Electric-type owned by a main character besides Pikachu.
    • Notably, both of these Pokémon are based on a species of rodent.
  • For DP021, Professor Oak's lecture is about Dawn's Pachirisu. He writes this Pokémon senryū about it: パチリスが おめめさめたよ パッチリス Pachirisu ga, omeme sameta yo, pacchiri su "Pachirisu woke up, eyes shining bright."
  • In the dub of Steamboat Willies, it is revealed that Pachirisu is the youngest of Dawn's Pokémon. This remained true until the hatching of Cyndaquil in DP143.
  • Pachirisu is currently Dawn's only Pokémon whose voice is not changed in the dub. Buizel also kept his Japanese voice, but Dawn no longer owns him.
  • Pachirisu seems to be almost a parallel to May's Skitty.
    • Both were the third Pokémon obtained by their trainer.
    • Jessie had her heart set on catching them and using them for contest purposes.
    • Both share a similar attitude and habits. These would include chasing their tails, having a lot of energy, and running away from their trainers.
    • Both use their Japanese voice actresses in both the Japanese and English versions.
  • Pachirisu's illness in Doc Brock! is similar to that of Ash's Pikachu in Get the Show on the Road!.
  • Pachirisu is Dawn's only Pokémon that is not part of an evolutionary line.
