Dawn's Pachirisu (Japanese: ヒカリのパチリス Hikari's Pachirisu) was the second Pokémon captured by Dawn, and her third Pokémon overall. It was captured in Twice Smitten, Once Shy. Its voice actress in both English and Japanese is 西村ちなみ Chinami Nishimura.

History

Pachirisu has a very hyperactive personality. It loves to have fun with Dawn and her other Pokémon. It also tends to give Dawn a bad hair day by using Discharge. Dawn felt that she had failed Pachirisu as a Trainer because of its behavior and temporarily released it. A while later she realized that she made a mistake and went back to get it, only to find that Jessie already had set her sights on the electric squirrel. However it managed to defeat Team Rocket and Dawn recaptured it.

Pachirisu seems to be a bit of a con artist. For a moment it appeared to want to join Jessie and left with her. However this was only to get the spray bottle from her that had the formula in it that would release Dawn and the others from Team Rocket's sticky trap. This also shows that Pachirisu is a lot smarter than it seems.

In Sleight of Sand Pachirisu got stuck inside a Hippowdon that was being pursued by Butch & Cassidy, and eventually got out.

In DP094, Pachirisu became ill from having too much electricity, but by the end of the episode, it had recovered.

Trivia

  • Dawn's capture of Pachirisu marks the first time a main character has ever caught an Template:Type2 Pokémon, and it is the first Electric-type owned by a main character besides Pikachu.
  • For DP021, Professor Oak's lecture is about Dawn's Pachirisu. He writes this Pokémon senryū about it: パチリスが おめめさめたよ パッチリす
  • In the dub of Steamboat Willies! it is revealed that Pachirisu is the youngest of Dawn's Pokémon, as well as second youngest of all the Pokémon belonging to Ash and company, second only to Happiny, who was just hatched an episode earlier.
  • Pachirisu is currently Dawn's only Pokémon whose voice is not changed in the dub. Buizel also kept his Japanese voice, but Dawn no longer owns him.
  • The pattern on Pachirisu's head indicates it is possibly male. However, it was seen wearing a cheerleading outfit along with Dawn's Piplup and Buneary in Team Shocker!, indicating it could be female. Because of this, it is difficult to determine Pachirisu's gender.
  • Pachirisu is the only Pokémon that Dawn owns that is not part of an evolutionary line.
  • Pachirisu seems to be almost a parallel to May's Skitty.
  1. Both were the third Pokémon obtained by their trainer.
  2. Jessie had her heart set on catching them and using them for contest purposes.
  3. Both share a similar attitude and habits. These would include chasing their tails, having a lot of energy, and running away from their trainers.
  4. Both use their Japanese voice actresses in both dubs.
  • Over the episodes, Pachirisu's Discharge has gone from shocking everyone (which is what happens in the games), into only affecting an intended target; Team Rocket for example.
