Synopsis

After his narrow victory over Paul, Ash discovers that his next match is against the strongest contender in the entire Suzuran Conference, Takuto - who has easily won every battle to reach the semifinals using only his Darkrai. Ash sends out his Heracross first, and Takuto sends out Darkrai. Heracross starts off with a Megahorn, but Darkrai intercepts it with a Dark Void. Ash calls out for a Sleep Talk, which turns into another Megahorn. The Megahorn slams into Darkrai, but it appears unhurt and strikes Heracross with a Dream Eater attack, knocking it out.

Ash calls back Heracross, and sends out Torkoal. Torkoal uses Flamethrower, but Darkrai intercepts it with Dark Pulse, fainting Torkoal as well. Now that two of his Pokemon are fainted, Ash knows Takuto is going to be hard to beat. He decides to send out Gible next.

Gible immediately smacks into Darkrai with a Rock Smash. Takuto calls for Ice Beam, and Ash orders Gible to keep dodging. Eventually Gible fires a Draco Meteor, but Darkrai dodges and uses Dark Pulse, knocking out Gible.

Ash sends out his next Pokemon: Sceptile. Darkrai fires an Ice Beam, but Sceptile dodges. Darkrai then uses Dark Void to put Sceptile to sleep. Sceptile is floating in his dream, wondering what's happening, when Darkrai attacks with Dream Eater. Sceptile wakes up and proceeds to knock out Darkrai with a powerful Leaf Blade.

Not at all nervous, Takuto tosses his next PokeBall up into the air and out bursts a Latios! Latios prepares a Giga Impact attack, and Ash tells Sceptile to counter it with Leaf Blade. However, Sceptile is no match and is easily knocked out.

Ash sends out his Swellow to combat Latios next. Latios and Swellow continuously dodge one another's flying attacks, flying in circles around each other. Tired of this, Ash orders Swellow to head up into the sun so Latios can't see him and use Aerial Ace. However, Latios intercepts the Aerial Ace with a Luster Purge and Swellow falls to the ground, knocked out.

Ash turns back his hat and sends out his final Pokemon - Pikachu.

Pikachu starts off with a Quick Attack, but Latios easily dodges. Pikachu turns around and uses Volt Tackle. Latios spins around as well and uses Giga Impact. The two attacks collide, and Pikachu is sent flying backwards. Wincing, Pikachu lands on its feet and watches as Latios flies into the air and begins another Giga Impact. Pikachu tries to intercept once again with Iron Tail, but like before is sent flying backwards. Latios flew high up in the sky until it was barely visible, then flew back down, a sparkling pink Luster Purge glowing at its mouth. Ash sees Pikachu laying on the ground injured, and orders Pikachu to dodge, which Pikachu does, the Luster Purge narrowly missing.

Latios flies by and arcs up back into the sky, and unbeknownst to it, Pikachu rides on its back! Latios turns and sees Pikachu hanging on tightly, one eye closed. Pikachu used Thunderbolt on the flying Latios, making it scream. Latios flew around, trying to get Pikachu off its back. Pikachu used another Thunderbolt, causing Latios to scream once again. Takuto had had enough and ordered Latios to use Light Screen, Latios's body glowing with many yellow particles. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt again, but it does almost nothing!

Pikachu tries again and again to hurt Latios, to no avail, while Latios flies high into the sky. Latios twists suddenly and heads back to earth, Pikachu flailing behind. Latios lands inches from the ground and again, pink particles form a Luster Purge at its mouth. Ash yells out a command and Pikachu somersaults in midair, then glows with the electricity of a Volt Tackle. The Luster Purge meets the Volt Tackle, but the Volt Tackle slowly cuts through. Pikachu's strength is waning and he is struggling to cut through the attack. Ash yells at the top of his lungs for an Iron Tail, which cuts through the Luster Purge fully and scores a direct hit on Latios, causing a giant explosion. All the scoreboards are knocked out in the process.

When the smoke clears, Latios and Pikachu are both fainted, declaring Takuto the winner. Paul is watching the battle on TV, and walks away, disappointed upon seeing Ash lose.

Takuto is then shown defeating a Trainer's Magmortar with his Darkrai, winning him the Suzuran Conference. Takuto is grinning with Cynthia as fireworks fire off around the stadium.

The episode ends with a brand new day, and our heroes heading off to Twinleaf...

Trivia

Errors

Scoreboard error
  • After Takuto beat Ash, in the scoreboard a Mismagius silhouette appears in place of Swellow's one. Also, Torkoal and Darkrai silhouettes are slightly different from before.
  • Latios's Giga Impact seemingly does not have to recharge after usage. The same can be said about Heracross's Hyper Beam.
