Synopsis

Template:Incomplete synopsis Still on their way to Dawn's next contest, the gang arrive in a small town hosting a different contest. Meeting up with Candice, the Snowpoint City Gym Leader, the gang watch as Zoey gains her fifth ribbon. Seeing her rival qualify for the Grand Festival makes Dawn eager to train for the upcoming Daybreak Contest. With Zoey and Candice's help, Dawn prepares for the required Double Performance, hoping to avoid the mistakes that led to her early exit from the Hearthome Contest. Meanwhile, Ash finds himself in a similar situation to Dawn as he learns that his rival has moved ahead of him too...

Trivia

Updated ending shot
  • Professor Oak's Pokémon lecture: Magby
  • Much like how Dawn's main rival, Zoey has been shown in this episode to have all the ribbons necessary to enter the Sinnoh Grand Festival, Ash's main rival Paul has been shown to have the 8 badges in order to compete in the Sinnoh League in the same episode.
  • While Team Rocket are hiding in the bushes from the gang, James worries about how to get away without being spotted by them, and Meowth replies that, "The twerps wouldn't know us if we jumped out and said, 'Boo!'." Jessie remarks that Ash and his friends have "elevated cluelessness to an art form." This is a reference to the running gag that Ash and his friends never seem to be able to identify Team Rocket in their disguises.
  • Music from Jirachi Wish Maker and Destiny Deoxys is used during this episode.
  • This episode marks one of the few times Jessie's Wobbuffet has used Mirror Coat.
  • Ash's Gliscor has been removed from the 'Up' ending shot of the ending credits.

Errors

  • On the official Pokémon website, the summary of this episode is incorrectly stated as "Can watching Zoey give Misty the inspiration she needs to win her next Contest?" when it should say Dawn instead of Misty.
