Ash's Zuruggu (Japanese: サトシのズルッグ Satoshi's Zuruggu) is the fifth Pokémon that Ash Ketchum obtained in the Unova region.

History

Ash received Zuruggu's egg in BW012 as a parting gift from Kikuyo for helping her settle a conflict between her granddaughter Yuri and her students, who had befriended a Yabukuron. In BW017, when the egg started hatching, Axew accidentally knocked it, causing it to roll down a hill towards sharp rocks.

Zuruggu hatched from its egg shortly after and it wasted no time showing off its headstrong nature. When Pikachu tried to greet it, it used Leer on him and then Headbutted him. It later tried to pick fights with Ash's other Pokémon. Since it was newly hatched, it was easily subdued by weak attacks. Ash attempts to catch it with his Poké Ball but Zuruggu refuses, still feeling unsure.

Later, Zuruggu wanders off and starts headbutting a tree which was the home of a group Denchura. It became paralyzed by Denchura's ElecNet and needed to be rescued. With no Pokémon Centers around, Iris quickly made up a potion for it to cure its paralysis. It felt better the next morning and left to confront the Denchura that attacked it. Again it was outmatched and was saved by the rest of Ash's Pokémon. Seeing what they were willing to do for it, Zuruggu begins to trust them and its Trainer.

Shortly after, Dent suggests that Zuruggu battle Iris's Axew. The battle ends in a draw when both Pokémon knock each other out. After the battle, Zuruggu happily agrees to go inside its Poké Ball.
