== Welcome to Indigo Plateau ==
{{rt|21|Kanto}} is an ocean route that leads from [[Cinnabar Island]] back to [[Pallet Town]]. A single patch of tall grass grows just outside of town.


The front room doubles as a Poké Center and Poké Mart, allowing Trainers to prepare themselves and their Pokémon before challenging the {{ka|Elite Four}}. The Elite Four is a group of talented Pokémon Trainers second only to the Pokémon League [[Champion]] in terms of power. The title of Champion designates a person as the strongest Trainer in the region, having defeated the Elite Four and the previous Champion to claim it. The next five battles will not be easy, but with a strong team and a large supply of {{DL|Potion|Max Potion}}s, {{DL|Potion|Full Restore}}s, and [[Revive]]s, strong-willed Trainers should be able to reach the [[Hall of Fame]].

==Pallet Town==
Having now explored nearly all of the [[Kanto]] region, it is a good time to tie up any loose ends, the most important of which is the [[Kanto Power Plant|Power Plant]]. To get there, fly back to {{rt|10|Kanto}}.

The first member of the Elite Four is [[Lorelei]], a master {{type2|Ice}} Trainer.  Three of her five Pokémon are {{2t|Water|Ice}}-type elementals, so be wary of type-matchups.  {{type2|Grass}}s may seem like a good idea, but they'll only be useful against her {{p|Slowbro}}.  Trainers are better off throwing a few {{m|thunderbolt}}s to clear through her team.  Her {{p|Jynx}} is an {{2t|Ice|Psychic}}-type, so try hitting it with a {{m|Flamethrower}} or {{m|Crunch}} to finish it off.  {{p|Zapdos}} and {{p|Moltres}} are decent candidates; Zapdos learns {{m|Thunder}} at level 85, and Moltres can learn Flamethrower at level 49.  Only bring them if they are higher-leveled, though, since their secondary {{type2|Flying}} is vulnerable to {{t|ice}} attacks.

The [[Kanto Power Plant|Power Plant]] is an industrial complex that was abandoned years ago, though some of the machinery still works. Many forgotten items can be found lying around, but beware: some are actually {{p|Electrode}} that only look like items.

Pass through the entrance room to get a [[Max Potion]]. Continue in a clockwise direction to the large, central room to find {{TM|17|Protect}} and an [[Elixir]]. Collect {{TM|25|Thunder}} in the southeast room, then follow the narrow hallway northward. Grab the [[Thunder Stone|ThunderStone]] from the northeast corner of the northeast room. Continue westward to reach the final room.

Use {{t|Rock}}- and {{type|Ice}} attacks to weaken it quickly, then follow up with {{t|Grass}}, {{t|Flying}}, and {{t|Fighting}} moves to wear its health down further. Like with {{p|Articuno}} and {{p|Moltres}}, it will be useful to cause status ailments like {{status|Sleep}} to increase the odds of catching it.


The second member of the Elite Four is [[Bruno]], a master {{type2|Fighting}} Trainer.  That being said, only three of his five Pokémon are actually part of the Fighting-type.  A strong {{type2|Water}} like {{p|Cloyster}} or {{p|Gyarados}} can {{m|Surf|flood}} the battlefield, eliminating his two {{p|Onix}} with little resistance.  Dispatch a strong {{type2|Psychic}} to deal with the other three, though a high-powered {{t|Flying|bird}} like {{p|Zapdos}} can take them out with {{m|Drill Peck}} or {{m|Sky Attack}}.  For reinforcements, consider bringing a {{p|Golduck}} or {{p|Slowbro}} along, since their {{2t|Water|Psychic}} combination will be a strong point here.

The third member of the Elite Four is [[Agatha]], a master {{type2|Ghost}} Trainer. Only {{t|Ghost}}- and {{t|Dark}}-type moves (like {{m|Shadow Ball}} and {{m|Bite}}) can effectively damage Agatha's team, but {{t|psychic}} attacks can exploit the {{type2|Poison}} present in her {{p|Arbok}} and {{p|Golbat}}. {{type2|Ground}} moves like {{m|Earthquake}} can deal some heavy damage, but are totally ineffective against her vampire bat.  Take out her two {{p|Gengar}} as soon as possible, or their {{m|Confuse Ray}} and {{m|Hypnosis}} attacks will get annoying really quick.
In the time it took to collect the seven other Badges, the Gym Leader of [[Viridian Gym]] has finally returned. [[Giovanni]] resumed his position as Gym Leader shortly after his defeat in [[Saffron City]]. The [[Viridian Gym]] specializes in {{type|Ground}} Pokémon. {{t|Grass}}-, {{t|Water}}-, and {{type|Ice}} attacks will be the most useful. {{type|Flying}} Pokémon are immune to Ground attacks and Flying moves will deal serious damage to the several {{t|Fighting}} Pokémon inside. {{t|Psychic}} moves will work wonders against {{type|Poison}} Pokémon.

Like the [[Team Rocket Hideout|Rocket Hideout]] in [[Celadon City]], the Viridian Gym also employs [[spinner tile]]s to confuse and disorient any challengers. Go north through the center room. Battle Ace Trainer Warren and Black Belt Takashi, so that Takashi walks away from the north wall. Return to the entrance and follow the spinner tiles north and west to reach the Gym Leader.

The fourth and final member of the Elite Four is [[Lance]], a master {{type2|Dragon}} Trainer, and leader of the Elite Four.  The Dragon-type is probably the strongest type in the game, since it resists {{t|Electric}}-, {{t|Grass}}-, {{t|Fire}}-, and {{t|Water}}-type moves, and is only weak to {{t|Dragon}}- and {{t|Ice}}-type attacks.  A formidable opposing team, though only three of the five are actually part of the {{t|Dragon}}-type.  Call in a {{m|blizzard}} to take out his two {{p|Dragonair}} and his {{p|Dragonite}}, and the bulk of his team is finished.  Due to their secondary {{type2|Flying}}, his {{p|Gyarados}} and {{p|Aerodactyl}} are also vulnerable to {{t|Ice}} moves, though there are other options to defeat them.  Gyarados will take quadruple damage from {{t|Electric|electricity}}, so one good {{m|Thunderbolt}} should ground it.  Aerodactyl is part-{{t|Rock}}, so a {{m|Surf|flooded}} battlefield is one of its worst nightmares.  {{p|Articuno}} and {{p|Zapdos}} are the best choices to use against Lance's dragons.

The Elite Four is defeated.  After defeating Lance, the door to this unknown Champion's room is unlocked.  Don't enter just yet, though - as soon you leave Lance's room, Trainers will be lured into battle almost immediately, so use any potions or Revives now.  There is only one person left to defeat to claim the title of Champion!  Step through the door to find {{DL|Blue (game)/FireRed and LeafGreen|Eighth battle (Champion)|a familiar face}}...

Having won all eight Gym Badges, the next destination is the [[Indigo Plateau]], far to the northwest. The elite Trainers there are tough, but before you can challenge them, you must first survive a grueling cave known as {{ka|Victory Road}}. Gather your strongest Pokémon team with access to {{m|Surf}} and {{m|Strength}}, and visit a Poké Mart to replenish your supply of Potions and Poké Balls.

[[Blue (game)/FireRed and LeafGreen|Blue]] defeated the Elite Four before most Trainers even set foot in {{ka|Victory Road}}, and now he is the elite Trainer with the title of Indigo League Pokémon Champion.  The first half of his team will always be {{p|Pidgeot}}, {{p|Alakazam}}, and {{p|Rhydon}}, so plan accordingly.  His second half is what changes, depending on which starter Pokémon he took.  {{p|Zapdos}} is a terror to his Pidgeot and {{p|Gyarados}} (or {{p|Blastoise}}), and a searing {{m|Thunderbolt}} will send them reeling.  A strong {{type2|Water}} can {{m|Surf|wash away}} his Rhydon and {{p|Arcanine}} (or {{p|Charizard}}).  Dispatch {{p|Articuno}} to fight his {{p|Exeggutor}} (or {{p|Venusaur}}), since {{t|Ice}} and {{t|Flying}} moves are the stuff of a {{type2|Grass}}'s nightmares.  The only real potential struggle is when facing his Alakazam - it typically has low {{stat|defense}}s, so pound away with a strong physical move, like {{m|Earthquake}}.  Once it neglects to {{m|recover}} its health, hit it fast & hard.

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
These pages follow the remade Game Boy Advance iteration, not Pokémon Red and Blue. The guide for those games can be found here.


Route 21

Route 21

Route 21 is an ocean route that leads from Cinnabar Island back to Pallet Town. A single patch of tall grass grows just outside of town.

Having now explored nearly all of the Kanto region, it is a good time to tie up any loose ends, the most important of which is the Power Plant. To get there, fly back to Route 10.

To reach the Power Plant, use Surf to follow the river southward past the Rock Tunnel entrance. It is only a short distance away, with a single PokéManiac outside the building.

The Power Plant is an industrial complex that was abandoned years ago, though some of the machinery still works. Many forgotten items can be found lying around, but beware: some are actually Electrode that only look like items.


In Search of Power

Pass through the entrance room to get a Max Potion. Continue in a clockwise direction to the large, central room to find TM17 (Protect) and an Elixir. Collect TM25 (Thunder) in the southeast room, then follow the narrow hallway northward. Grab the ThunderStone from the northeast corner of the northeast room. Continue westward to reach the final room.

VS Zapdos

Zapdos is the last of the legendary birds that you will encounter. Use Rock- and Ice-type attacks to weaken it quickly, then follow up with Grass, Flying, and Fighting moves to wear its health down further. Like with Articuno and Moltres, it will be useful to cause status ailments like Sleep to increase the odds of catching it.

In the time it took to collect the seven other Badges, the Gym Leader of Viridian Gym has finally returned. Giovanni resumed his position as Gym Leader shortly after his defeat in Saffron City. The Viridian Gym specializes in Ground-type Pokémon. Grass-, Water-, and Ice-type attacks will be the most useful. Flying-type Pokémon are immune to Ground attacks and Flying moves will deal serious damage to the several Fighting Pokémon inside. Psychic moves will work wonders against Poison-type Pokémon.

Like the Rocket Hideout in Celadon City, the Viridian Gym also employs spinner tiles to confuse and disorient any challengers. Go north through the center room. Battle Ace Trainer Warren and Black Belt Takashi, so that Takashi walks away from the north wall. Return to the entrance and follow the spinner tiles north and west to reach the Gym Leader.
