Release information
In Japan, this card was released as a promotional card with different artwork by Ken Sugimori. It was first available through the "Trade Please" campaign that ran from February 10th to July 31st in 1998. A flyer included with the Trade Please album by Suzukisan had to be mailed to MediaFactory along with any two Pokémon trading cards within the campaign period. The Please Trade promotional card, as well as either this card, Venusaur, or Charizard would then be sent back, completing the trade.
It was reprinted in the Intro Pack and again as part of the Pokémon Song Best Collection CD. These variants were never released in English. The Base Set version was also reprinted in the Base Set 2 reprint set, which was only released outside of Japan.

Trivia
- The Blastoise cards released via the "Trade Please" campaign and the Pokémon Song Best Collection CD have the Pikachu Records logo in place of an expansion symbol.
- A few copies of the card lack the word "Stage" in the text in the upper right explaining how to play the card.
Origin
Rain Dance and Hydro Pump are both moves in the Pokémon games that Blastoise can learn, though Rain Dance did not become an actual attack until Generation II. This card's English Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon Red and Blue, though it is slightly reworded. The Japanese entry comes from Pokémon Red and Green.
