Release information

This card was released as a promotional card. In Japan, it was part of a special vending sheet available at the World Hobby Fair in 1998, along with Pikachu and Mew. Later Japanese versions were released as part of the "Pokémon Best Collection" CD. The English version of the card was released through Nintendo Power Magazine in April 2000. It was later reprinted in Legendary Collection.

Trivia

  • Wizards of the Coast ran a competition to illustrate a Pokémon card. The winning entry by Christopher Rush replaced the Japanese artwork, originally done by Ken Sugimori. The explanation behind this was to probably ease confusion that may have arisen due to the similarity of the Japanese artwork of this card to that of the first promo Mewtwo, as both are modified from Sugimori's Generation I stock art.
  • The Mewtwo included in the "Pokémon Best Collection" CD has the Pikachu Records logo in place of an Expansion symbol.
  • The English version of this card was also released in Japan as a promotional card for completing the JR Stamp Rally in August 2000, along with an English version of Eevee.

Origin

Telekinesis is a move later introduced in the Generation V Pokémon games that Mewtwo can learn via TM19. This card's Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon Red and Blue, though it is slightly reworded.
