The Azalea Gym (Japanese: ヒワダジム Hiwada Gym) is the official gym of Azalea Town. It is based on Template:Type2 Pokémon. The Gym Leader is Bugsy. Trainers who defeat him receive the Hive Badge.
In the anime
Bugsy and his gym's only anime appearances came in Gettin' the Bugs Out. The gym is very forest-like in its appearance, with trees and grass growing everywhere. Bugsy lets all of his Pokémon roam free in the gym, much to Misty's chagrin.
Ash felt confident that his Cyndaquil would be able to easily defeat Bugsy and his Pokémon. However, the Pokémon needed to get warmed up before it was able to use its Template:Type2 attacks. In the meantime, Ash used his Chikorita and Pikachu to defeat Bugsy's Pokémon. When Ash was down to Cyndaquil, the young Pokémon was able to warm its flame up in time and defeat Bugsy's Scyther.
In the games
In Gold, Silver and Crystal
In Gold, Silver, and Crystal, the Azalea Gym is a giant forest maze. Trainers such as Twins and Bug Catchers hide around the corner and are ready to spring upon Trainers. Bugsy is located in the middle of the maze where he can be challenged to earn the Hive Badge.
In HeartGold and SoulSilver
In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, many aesthetic changes have been made to the Azalea Gym, including a new feature that lets the player ride on spider-shaped karts that travel in different directions across different areas of the gym. The player must travel on the correct spider to advance through the gym. If however the player gets on the wrong spider, they will travel to a different area where they must battle a Trainer.
