By creating your account you are now able to edit pages, join discussions, and expand the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia. Before you jump in, here are some ground rules:

  • Be nice to everyone. It's in the code of conduct.
  • Make good edits. Preview them before you save to make sure they're perfect the first time around.
  • Use wikicode and link templates when adding content to a page.
  • Use proper grammar and spelling, and read the manual of style.
  • You can't create a userpage until you've added to the encyclopedia. It's a privilege. See the userspace policy.
  • Use talk pages to resolve editing disputes. Don't "edit war," or constantly re-edit/undo the same thing on a page.
  • If you have a question about something, be proactive. Ask for help. The staff won't bite.
  • Sign all talk page posts with four tildes (~~~~). This will turn into your name and the time you wrote the comment.
  • For more handy links, see the welcome portal.
Thank you, and have a good time editing here!

Welcoming

Please use {{subst:welcome}} instead of just {{welcome}} when welcoming other users. Thanks. Jellotalk 02:18, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Yeah I hit submit instead of preview (I wanted to see if I could do it), then realized I didn't actually know how to fix it so... thanks for the tip. :( ~ Ribose · talk · cntr · 02:19, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

TM/HM Template

If you feel like helping with a project, I have been using this template to edit a bunch of TM lists and have actually finished working on Hoenn (last seven legendaries were done today). If you want to use that template as a starting point, feel free to edit more lists! I'm going to be working on Unova and Kalos species next, but already did some Kanto, Johto, and Sinnoh species related to Hoenn species while doing Hoenn, with a lot left to do. I have a Jigglypuff edit ready for when that page is no longer protected, as well. Check the Contest data against that template as I have occasionally found errors in lists that were already completed simply by copying my own version of the list over an existing one.

Reason I pointed to that template is because I know that Contest data is accurate and includes all SUP tags for differences between games. You're welcome to use it; just don't edit it on that page, but use a Notepad or similar to prepare edits to copy into the page. If you're all right just copying the moves one by one over the source code, you can do that too. =) CycloneGU (talk) 23:00, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, I just used a text file to save List of moves as a "cache", where I add the Appeal|Jamming as I need them from move pages (every move page has it, and I can confirm with my game where I have all the TMs and 95% of a living dex to search for moves with the box :P). But my internet is so slow, the process will definitely be sped up as I accumulate more data. Why doesn't List of moves have Appeal|Jamming? I don't know. Same reason some move pages don't match the rest of the Wiki (biggest offender being Version-exclusive moves! where is the Type|Category? Why is the TM sprite used?). Anyway, that's off topic. Thank you for the additional reference. ~ Ribose · talk · cntr · 23:13, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
It's likely not updated because the actual coding is used there (it's the only case where that chart is created), not a template to which one can just add "xy=n" as a trigger. If you want to look at the template and try to add it, go ahead, and it should be possible to work out edits to the first move.
Maybe I'll take a quick look, but I have not mastered that kind of coding, so it would involve testing in my case. I think it can be done and should be there, as well. I'll look at it after I finish working on all these OR/AS labels and missing location data; I'm up to about 335 on my way to 376 (377-386 are complete). CycloneGU (talk) 23:18, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
I was just talking. I don't think you should change List of moves until the staff decide how to design it with the moves that have changed contest stat from Generation III to Generation VI. They will probably need to make the page something like the learnsets across generations (a page for each generation), or remove the reference to contests to keep it clean. ~ Ribose · talk · cntr · 23:30, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Don't worry, I was going to make a copy in my userspace to present for consideration with a few moves. Provided it works, we can copy those few moves in. Of course, you're right, I don't know if they want the data there, but it would give a full list of moves that have certain contest effects (sortable), so it wouldn't hurt to have somewhere if not on that page. CycloneGU (talk) 23:33, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

U-Turn

Check U-Turn in-game. Is it three Hearts or four? The move page indicated four, and I fixed that by copying my template version over yours; that was literally the only character that changed in the entire chart, so the rest was good. CycloneGU (talk) 23:27, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Cute, Appeal:4 Jamming:0 ~ Ribose · talk · cntr · 23:30, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Good, template checks out. I just checked in my game, too. CycloneGU (talk) 23:34, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
That must have been a typo of mine. ~ Ribose · talk · cntr · 23:39, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Nothing to worry about. They slip through for me as well. I always feel sheepish when I see the Recent Changes and notice one character changed that I made a mistake on, or when I realized I used a footer tag in the header and completely deformed the entire chart to a garbled mess (yes, I actually did that, reverted it, and redid it, realizing later what I did). CycloneGU (talk) 23:41, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Uh

Since you are calling me out here, I'm actually simply drawing attention to the data still being needed. The same argument for incompleteness could be made for various tables with nothing but ??? added to every line (especially in the later Hoenn group under learnsets, where I've already completed TMs), something I see in many places. I'm moving to Move Tutor data as a future template production since very few pages seem to have that list completed and it seems like a quick thing to do as the list is often small or not even there. I'm just doing touchups to pages as I see them come across Recent Changes, particularly in the OR/AS labels which I just confirmed today should be light-coloured.

I'm also pondering the prior evolution tables; are there any moves known exclusively by earlier evolutions of Pidgeot in Generation VI? The tables didn't look right (they should link to past generations in the header), so fixing that table on both Pidgeotto and Pidgeot right now. CycloneGU (talk) 01:26, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

I used the wrong word. A better word for what I saw is "broken", instead of "incomplete". Your changes, which left 3 columns of background color on several tables, made it look like the formatting was broken, the page was rendered incorrectly, or any number of other false conclusions users may think of. Updating tables to leave a bunch of "???"s would be better, but I'd still not do that either because it seems weird to suggest that the contest data is not known, when it is known but simply not copied over yet. I would suggest that you update the header when you update the data, not before.
To answer you question, no, I don't think Pidgeot and Pidgeotto have pre-evolution-only moves. I would have guessed Secret Power as one, since it would be learnable from Generation III, but since they remade ORAS it can be learned by TM, so now it's excluded from that list. Since it would be very time-consuming to go through and level all of the things up to learn their new level up learnsets for ORAS to update to the new-style table (example usage: Dustox), I'm letting it stay and updating data that can be retrieved right now.
Here are other notes on things I see in your table header edits:
The two parameters "XY" and "ORAS" (for example: {{learnlist/levelh/6|Dustox|Bug|Poison|3|XY|ORAS|xy=n}}) is not necessary in any Generation 6 learnset template except the ORAS level up learnset header (Template:learnlist/levelh/6). That template uses the parameters as the first two column names. All other templates ignore the parameters.
The numeric parameter in most of those table header templates is the generation that Pokémon was introduced in. Somebody's change seems to have made it so Pidgeot was introduced in Generation III, so links to I and II subpages were omitted... If I did that, I'm sorry for implying it was you because I don't feel like going back to look at the edits.
All of these issues lead me to believe you should not submit changes to template calls until you understand how the templates work better.
I'm going to be just adding contest data, since I know it or know how to find it. ~ Ribose · talk · cntr · 01:56, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
I already know about the XY and ORAS. In other Prior Evolution tables, I submitted it wrong, so I went to a Gen. V moves page and copied the snippet there, and edited that. The tables I was editing, I think, already had the extra bit, but Lady Ariel already mentioned that intel to me a couple of weeks ago.
I have also already figured out that the number is generation introduced, hence why it's necessary to get that number right when editing tables (it's so easy to forget to change the number and accidentally make Diancie a first generation Pokémon). I have already edited almost all Hoenn (and a few other) species' TM/HM lists and gone over all of the labels (consistency, they were alternating black and white everywhere and I confirmed today that they should be white according to the EIC), Pokedex entries, and location data on the Hoenn pages to ensure that they are all complete. I certainly know a bit about editing tables.
I'm about to start a userspace project putting all the tutor move data together, and I should be able to go ahead and put that together quickly. That said, since I don't have the Battle Resort yet, and there's a possibility we are missing data on move pages, it may need a little assistance to complete before I can start applying it to all of the Hoenn pages as well. And I've delayed a couple of days collecting my rematch data. I have a lot of projects I'm undertaking here, and learning whatever I don't already know to complete them. If I don't know something, I either tinker in previews or ask someone. So please don't be offended when I say I don't need education on the templates I'm working on. I am going to ask staff a question regarding the prior evolutions tables when I finally get around to going through those, but one project at a time (or three in my case since I still have TMs/HMs, my own rematch data page, and now Move Tutor template construction). Stat-Noting

I already have some charts set up for the Sinnoh Legendaries right now (some also use switches, so I'm making sure those are retained or added in some cases like at Rotom), so I'll finish those this evening as I just got my own machine back and will do new ones there if I do any more. Going to wrap up using the loaner this evening with the remaining legendaries. If you finish up to Froslass (478) and any remain, just skip right to Patrat (right after Samurott) and continue from there. If I do any more after the legendaries, I'll start from the back of Unova where I left off at Cobalion and start with Volcarona, but you may get there first at the rate you're going. =) CycloneGU (talk) 01:30, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Um, okay. ~ Ribose · talk · cntr · 03:37, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
No worries, I just finished. Carry along. Need to move stuff to my virtual drive now, so taking a break from everything. CycloneGU (talk) 03:47, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
Man, I know you like to talk and all, but come on...
Things I'm doing: 1) writing scripts to quickly fix things I find broken or missing. 2) copying the learnset code a file. 3) running a script. 4) pasting the result back in and previewing to check for silly mistakes (outdated move names, outdated templates, weird/broken template code).
Things I'm not really doing (I'm sorry, man): 1) checking everyone else's progress. If I encounter a page that has updated data I move to the next. [this is not the same as "checking the latest changes page", as I do that and that's how I got inspired to make a script to get it done since about 600 pages weren't done when I started]. 2) writing my life story to talk pages. Something something computer problems. That sucks, but I don't work in IT.
Things I'd rather my talk page used for: talking to me about things concerning the site or things I've done. A simple "I will be adding contest stats for legendaries from Generations IV" with appropriate greeting/etc would have sufficed, and been way easier to follow. I had to reread what you wrote a couple times and I continue to fail to grasp whether the majority of what you said is for me (or is it just you talking to yourself? I don't know).
Sorry if this sounds harsh and it's a bit off-topic too, but, dude, tl;dr just do it. ~ Ribose · talk · cntr · 09:59, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm guilty of overexplaining things at times. Sorry if it bothered you. I really do need to work on that and have at times actually deleted and rewritten things (before sending of course) because I caught myself doing that. In any case, I'm not what you call "tracking others' progress"; I just noticed your last edit on Recent Changes while looking for something else when I noticed Staraptor and even now saw a Happiny one above this on the list (I figure you're past that now LOL).
In any case, all legendaries are now finished, so it's irrelevant now anyway. CycloneGU (talk) 15:22, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
