Move

I moved it because not only is Oshawott not the only one with a scalchop, but in the anime, it is clearly a designated scalchop attack. TorchicBlaziken (talkedits) 19:33, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Name

I was wondering if anyone thought there could be a better name for the page since it also talks about Samurott's ashigatana as well. Or if it should just be left as Scalchop and redirect ashigatana to this page. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 07:46, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

I don't see any name better than "Scalchop and ashigatana" coming up, like Dome and Helix Fossils. At least not unless we get a common name for them both. --SnorlaxMonster 16:51, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

It should be moved to Scalchop and seamitar, because seamitar is the official English name. TheShinyRoggenrola (talk) 20:50, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

I'm going to go ahead and agree with Shiny here. It makes the most sense (maybe capitalize seamitar in the title, but I suppose that's based on Bulbapedia's MoS, so I'll leave that decision to someone else), as the two together are key tools of the Oshawott evolutionary line. Titles are sentence case, so seamitar should not be capitalized. --SnorlaxMonster 07:13, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Pictures

Do we have pictures of a Seamitar? I want to see one... Nutter Butter (talk) 01:29, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

The gallery section on this page has an anime picture of Samurott wielding one. They're also visible (in their sheaths) in all of Samurott's sprites, artwork, etc. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 02:51, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Why does this article exist?

I can not think of a reason to keep this article. Almost every thing listed here would be better in a different article. The only real exception would be the explanation of what one is, but that can too go in Pokémon descriptions. I don't see a reason not to delete this. CoolMan6001 (talk) 12:58, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

EDIT: (copied verbatim from another page I put this information in) Simply put: we don't give other unique qualities of a Pokémon a page. There's not a page for the coins associated with Meowth, or the spoons Kadabra and Alakazam use. In both cases infact, there's moves that make use of both mentioned elements. Should articles for those exist because they get featured in similar ways?

The only other deciding factor would have to be the anime, which I'll admit, it does feature a notable use of the scalchop Ash's Oshawott uses. However, this is information that should be on the page for Ash's Oshawott, not on an article about scalchops. For other uses, those can simply be covered on other pages.

In short, I see no reason for this article to exist. CoolMan6001 (talk) 20:07, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

I'd say the fact that it's referred to so often in the anime by name and has been used as a plot device, it deserves its own page as much as things like Salveyo weed. Me, Hurray! (talk) 23:58, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
Also that there's a reasonable bulk of information about them allowing for a decent-sized article, whereas Kadabra's spoons are just... Spoons.Me, Hurray! (talk) 00:00, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

Staff have decided to keep this page. With the in-universe lore between the games, anime, and manga and the terminology that relates to multiple species, this is a reasonable page. Tiddlywinks (talk) 03:31, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
