Russet (2nd from the left) and his family

Russet (Japanese: イモタロー Imotarō) is a minor recurring character of the Pokémon anime who competed in the Vertress Conference. He is from Inakano Town.

He first appeared in Curtain Up, Unova League! on the screen of the preliminary match-ups. After that he reappeared in Mission: Defeat Your Rival! on the screen showing the match-ups for the second round, meaning he had made it through the first round. In Lost at the League! it was revealed he had made it through the second and third rounds as well when he appeared on the screens again. Later in the episode, when Iris's Axew got lost, he appeared with his friends and family celebrating his victory through the first rounds.

He battled against Manning in the fourth round in Strong Strategy Steals the Show! and won, making his way to the quarter-finals. In A Unova League Evolution!, he battled Virgil and lost, placing him in the Top 8. Afterwards he appeared once again in the closing ceremonies of the Vertress Conference.

Russet's Eelektross
Eelektross is the only Pokémon that Russet is known to have. It appeared briefly battling Manning's Jellicent and won.

Eelektross's only known move is Thunderbolt.

Debut Strong Strategy Steals the Show!

It is presumed that Russet has five other Pokémon with him since he was required to compete in the final rounds of the Vertress Conference, which consists of Full Battles.

  • According to Tom Wayland, Russet was given his dub name because he thought Russet looked like a Russet Burbank potato.
    • His Japanese name can also be derived from タロ芋 taroimo (taro).
