Champion Time (Japanese: チャンピオン タイム！ Champion Time!) was a story event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pairs Leon & Charizard and Marnie & Morpeko.
This event featured the Full-Force Battle, where players were challenged to defeat a large group of strong opponents. Similar to the Legendary Arena, players could use multiple teams with a limited number of total sync pairs, with the opponents' health carrying over between rounds and with previously used pairs unable to be used again until the challenge is reset. Medals could be earned by completing specific missions.
In addition, players could earn a medal for completing all the story areas in the event.
First run
The event first ran from February 26 to March 18, 2021. The "Leon Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Leon & Charizard for the duration of the event, and the "Marnie Poké Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Marnie & Morpeko for the duration of the event.
In this run, players could earn Travel Tokens from "Challenge Pasio's Trainers" single-player battles. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Super Tough Battle!, which could only be challenged once per day. The player could use Travel Tokens to move to an adjacent space on the event map, collecting the item on that space. Reaching the checkpoint on a map would allow the player to unlock a new story area, if one was available, and advance to the next map. In addition, the maps would occasionally include a story sub-area that could be unlocked when the player moved to that space. Once all the story sub-areas had been unlocked, the player could find grand prizes on the map, which included Power-Up items, 5★ Scout Tickets, Support Move Candy Coins, and Custom 5★ Power-Up items for Leon & Charizard and Marnie & Morpeko. Extra Travel Tokens were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.
The player could battle using Leon & Charizard, Marnie & Morpeko, Piers & Obstagoon, or Gloria & Zacian to obtain +0.6× bonus Travel Tokens; and Scottie/Bettie & Pikachu or Scottie/Bettie & Torchic to obtain +0.2× bonus Travel Tokens.
Second run
The event reran from February 18 to March 11, 2023. The "Leon Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Leon & Charizard from the beginning of the event to March 18, 2023, and Leon received a power boost that allowed him to Gigantamax his Charizard and use Max Moves. The "Marnie Poké Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Marnie & Morpeko from February 20 to March 25, 2023.
In this run, players could earn Prize Coins from battles that could be used to draw items from a Prize Box pool. If the grand prize was drawn from the Prize Box, players could advance to the next prize pool. The grand prizes included area info for event story areas, area info for story sub-areas, 5★ Scout Tickets, Power-Up items, Skill Spheres, and a Tech Move Candy Coin. Additionally, Daily Super Tough Battle! was renamed to Daily Extreme Battle 1. Extra Prize Coins were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.
The player could battle using Leon & Charizard, Marnie & Morpeko, Piers & Obstagoon, or Gloria & Zacian to obtain +0.6× bonus Prize Coins; and Scottie/Bettie & Pikachu, Scottie/Bettie & Torchic, or any unlisted Galar sync pair to obtain +0.2× bonus Prize Coins.
Plot
The player, along with Gloria, meet up with Leon, Piers, and Marnie, who have just arrived in Pasio, with a crowd cheering with excitement at the arrival of the Galar Champion. Leon brings out his Charizard, while Piers and Marnie remark on how Leon's reputation has preceded him, even on Pasio, and declare that they and Gloria are going to have some battles too.
Later, Lear, Rachel, and Sawyer commence the three exhibition battles featuring the new arrivals from Galar: Gloria and Zacian versus Alder and his Volcarona, Marnie and Morpeko versus Karen and her Umbreon, and Leon and his Charizard versus Blue and his Blastoise. Gloria wins her battle, while Marnie loses to Karen, and Leon beats Blue. After Marnie's loss, she feels as if she has disappointed her fans, but Gloria, Piers, and Leon cheer her up. After the exhibition battles, the player and other sync pairs from Pasio, along with Leon, Marnie, Gloria, and Piers, meet up and talk about various topics around the island.
