Spikes is a non-damaging Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation II. From Generation II onwards it can be increased by using Spikes again (up to the third time) after the initial Spikes was used. The damage inflicted by switching out will not occur on Template:Type2s or Pokémon with Levitate. In a double battle, Spikes affects all Pokémon in play. The only way to get rid of Spikes is to use Rapid Spin.
Effect
Spikes sets spikes around the target Pokémon. If the target is switched out, the Pokémon switching in will receive damage unless it is a Template:Type2 or a Pokémon with Levitate.
