Manaphy (Japanese: マナフィ Manaphy) is a legendary Water-type Pokémon, first appearing in Generation IV. Manaphy is not directly obtainable in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The egg required for unlocking it in the games must be traded from Pokémon Ranger, where it is found by means of a special event called W-Mission.

Manaphy's ability is Moist Body, which heals a status effect (Burn, Paralyze, Sleep, Poison, Freeze) when Manaphy is in play during rain.

Manaphy's height is 0.3 meters (1 foot), and its weight is 1.4 kilograms (3 lbs.). It is comparable to Celebi, Jirachi, and most notably Mew, for its place in the regional Pokédex list, as well as for its inability to be caught during normal gameplay.

Name origin

Manaphy's name is based on manatee, the name of a water-dwelling mammal. It also may be loosely based upon sea angels, tiny transparent ocean mollusks that look like ocean fairies.
