Coin Case glitches
This article is about the glitches involving the coin case item in generation II.
Glitch dimension
The glitch dimension (as it is often referred to by fans) is a glitch in Pokémon Gold and Silver. Unlike some other glitches, this glitch is merely for altering the visuals of the game, and will not negatively affect or erase the saved file once it is executed.
Results
Several different things can happen upon activating this glitch, one being that the game freezes upon activating it. The other is that the screen turns white with a small purple rectangle in the top right-hand corner and the game restarts with different colors. When activated, it alters the colors of everything from the area the player walks around in to the wild and Trainer battles. Also, it slows the processing speed when trying to view the player's party Pokémon when not in battle. The "Poké" in PokéGear changes to randomly placed Japanese symbols. Interestingly, the Lugia and Ho-Oh on the title screens change from silhouettes to fully colored Pokémon.
Performing the glitch
Machop method
Either talk to the Machop in Vermilion City, the Machoke in the Goldenrod Department Store or view the Pokédex entry of Machop, Machoke or Machamp.
Ditto method
Trade a Ditto with the glitch move -- onto a Gold, Silver or Crystal Version.
Explanation
It may be that the glitch dimension causes the game to act as if it were being read by a Game Boy. If a player talks to the girl in the Goldenrod City Department Store, who normally says "MYSTERY GIFT. With just a small beep you get a gift." but in the Glitch dimension says "The MYSTERY GIFT option requires a Game Boy Color."
Dratini glitch
After the player listens to the cry of Dratini by interacting with one in Blackthorn City or viewing its Pokédex entry, and subsequently uses the Coin Case, the Coin Case's display will change what the coin case says from "Coins: ..." to "Which move?he pp of" permanently unless the game is reset without saving.
Others
Listening to the cry of any Pokémon (most commonly by view its Pokédex entry) will cause glitchy effects.
