(Japanese: ロケット団VSプラズマ団!(後編) Rocket-dan VS Plasma-dan! (Part 2)) was intended to be the 24th episode of Pokémon the Series: Black & White, and the 681st episode of the Pokémon anime.

This episode was originally scheduled to air in Japan on March 24, 2011, but was postponed, along with the original BW023, indefinitely because of the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. TV Tokyo said in 2011 that it would someday air, but this statement was never updated or clarified, and was ultimately removed late in 2018. As of Team Plasma's Pokémon Power Plot!, this episode's events have been removed from continuity.

Plot

Team Plasma uses a helicopter to attack the Castelia City masquerade party and steal the Meteonite from Team Rocket, hoping to give it to control Pokémon and turn them against their Trainers. However, they are forced to make a stop in the Desert Resort when the Meteonite starts acting up and releasing unstable energy. While Giovanni, Pierce, Dr. Zager, and the rest of the team fall back, Jessie, James, and Meowth are sent to pursue Team Plasma and recover the Meteonite. Meanwhile, Ash is able to escape his captivity and reunite with his friends, who all follow Pikachu, who has suddenly become filled with energy from its connection to the Meteonite.

As Team Rocket and Team Plasma battle over control of the Meteonite, the unstable energy it's releasing increases and begins spreading all the way to Castelia City. Professor Juniper reveals that the Relic Castle's civilization was destroyed when the Meteonite went out of control, and the same fate will befall Castelia City unless the rock is destroyed. Ash and Pikachu fight both Team Rocket and Team Plasma in order to reach the Meteonite and destroy it, which they are finally able to do when both Giovanni and Ghetsis call off their followers, telling them that the Meteonite is no longer needed.

Pikachu destroys the Meteonite with a giant Electro Ball, but the villains are able to escape amidst the chaos of the explosion. Looker departs in pursuit of Team Plasma, Professor Juniper leaves to return the stolen Meteonite fragment to Lenora in Nacrene City, and Ash prepares to face Burgh in his next Gym battle.

Trivia

  • This and the previous episode are the only Pokémon the Series: Black & White episodes that were skipped.
  • Unlike the only other skipped episode in Japan, this two-parter was supposed to be important to the overall storyline instead of being a stand-alone episode.
  • Had this episode aired, it would have marked the final appearance of Pierce and the debut of Ghetsis.
  • Coincidentally, the 24th episode of Pokémon the Series: XY was also skipped. However, unlike this, it eventually aired.
  • The depiction of Team Plasma in these episodes differs significantly from how they would be depicted from their official debut in Team Plasma's Pokémon Power Plot! and onward. While they still want to put Pokémon into a frenzied state, the Team Plasma Grunts act more self-righteously, desiring is to liberate Pokémon from their Trainers and that they're doing this under orders of Ghetsis and in service of "the Hero." This suggests a different story arc based on the first games of Generation V was planned for the first incarnations of Team Plasma to feature in but it got scrapped as of the release of the sequels, the anime using the second incarnation of Team Plasma instead.
    • Additionally, Giovanni takes note of Team Plasma's name when it is revealed and says their presence requires Team Rocket having to recalculate how to operate within Unova, suggesting that he would still play a role in the originally planned Team Plasma-related story arc. In the arc the anime ended up using, however, Giovanni is not present.
  • The scene with Liepard attacking a skyscraper with Hyper Beam with two Team Plasma Grunts alongside it on a helicopter is reused for the Best Wishes! Season 2: Episode N opening, Be an Arrow! 2013, although it is newly animated rather than taken directly from the episode. The differences is that Aldith and Barret are in the scene (who have their uniforms designs from Pokémon Black 2 and White 2) instead of one Team Plasma Grunt with the original Pokémon Black and White uniform.
  • Pikachu creating a giant Electro Ball would later occur in Unova's Survival Crisis.
