Template:Infobox town Violet City (Japanese: キキョウシティ Kikyō City) is located in central Johto. It is the third city encountered in Johto by player.

Pokémon Trainers often come to Violet City in order to win the Zephyr Badge from Falkner, the Violet Gym Leader who specializes in Template:Type2 Pokémon.

Places of interest

Sprout Tower

Main article: Sprout Tower

The large tower in the northern part of the town is a towering and wobbling pagoda run by Buddhist monks who train Pokémon. After the player defeated the last monk, the player will receive HM05 (Flash). Rattata and Bellsprout can be found in the tower, as can Gastly at night.

Earl's Pokémon Academy

Located in the center of the town is Earl's Pokémon Academy, where prospective trainers learn how to raise Pokémon. On the blackboard are descriptions of the various status conditions which can affect Pokémon.

Violet City Gym

Main article: Violet Gym

This is the first Pokémon Gym that the player will encounter. It contains two trainers as well as the leader Falkner, who specializes in Flying-type Pokémon. On his defeat, Falkner presents winners with the Zephyr Badge.

In-game trade

One of the few in-game trades can be found in Violet City. In a southwestern house is a trainer who is willing to give up his Onix in exchange for a Bellsprout. This Onix will be holding a Bitter Berry. This is a fairly easy-to-complete trade, as Bellsprout are readily available just outside the city on Route 31. With this Onix, the Gym Battle with Falkner can be made easier.

Demographics

Violet City's population is 35, making it the second-largest city in Johto.

Trivia

  • Violet City, when Pokémon Gold and Silver were translated into French, was named Mauville. The English-language games would later use this name for a city in Hoenn.
  • In the games, the Violet City Gym is the only first gym challenge in the series to not specialize in the Template:Type2. It is also the only first gym where none of the starter Pokémon have a type advantage over it.
  • A remix of this town's music can be heard on Six and Seven Islands.

In other languages
