  • It premiered in Japan on November 19, 1998, and in the United States on October 11, 1999.
  • The episode shows Ash continuing his training for the upcoming Indigo League. He meets up with Bruno, who is one of the Elite Four in Pokémon Red and Blue.
  • The episode's English title reflects the main Pokémon featured in the episode, Onix. Onix was also the star of Who's That Pokémon in the Japanese broadcast. In the English broadcast, the Pokémon is Alakazam, who is in the next episode.
