Walkthrough:The Crown Tundra/Part 6
They Came From The Ultra Beyond
After you finished up Legendary Clue 3, Peony dashed off after his daughter Peonia in the direction of the Dynamax Adventures, but as he did so it seems as though he dropped something - Legendary Clue?, which has a photo attached showing a shining hole opening above the Max Lair, and some text that has a number of gaps. It reads “A m…ious l…ge h…le that con…cts o…r w…ld to ano…r. This phe…m…non was ori…ally dis…ered by Prof…r M…n. The h… co…ts to wor…s whe… Ult… …sts li…e. Th…e are be…s t…t are diff…nt fr…m the P…ém…n th… we …re fam…ar w…th.”
It seems slightly unintelligible, but filling in the blanks from context gives you the information “A mysterious large hole that connects our world to another. This phenomenon was originally discovered by Professor Mohn. The hole connects to worlds where Ultra Beasts live. These are beasts that are different from the Pokémon that we are familiar with.”
With all that in mind, we should probably investigate further. Make your way to the Max Lair, where you can find Peony hanging around in the foyer. Strike up a conversation with him and tell him about the Legendary Clue? he dropped when he left, although he has no recollection of writing it. At that moment there’s a huge uproar and people start fleeing from inside the Max Lair, with a horde of mysterious alien-like creatures having appeared. Looks like we got here just in time. The scientist by the entrance wonders if this has anything to do with the Ultra Wormhole that’s opened above us, while Peony, enthused by all the drama, grandiosely titles our new adventure "They Came From The Ultra Beyond!"
Peony tasks us with capturing the creature seen in the photo attached to Legendary Clue?, and to do that we’ll need to complete some more Dynamax Adventures to find it.
Dynamax Adventures
We’ve already experienced Dynamax Adventures before, and not much has really changed. It’s still the same roguelite style gameplay, picking up a rental Pokémon at the start then advancing through the Max Lair until the Legendary Pokémon at the end, while having fewer than 4 Pokémon get knocked out on the way.
The one difference now is the variety of Pokémon we can encounter at the end, with the Ultra Beasts being added to the pool of possible Pokémon. There is one Pokémon in particular that we’re after here to advance the story, however. In order to progress, we need to find Necrozma at the end of our adventure. As Necrozma is a pure Psychic-type, it’s possible to know from the start whether it might be at the end, as if it shows any type other than Psychic for the Pokémon at the heart of the den it’s impossible for it to be Necrozma.
Don’t worry if Necrozma isn’t there immediately - it’s likely to need a few tries for it to appear. You can try to find it a little faster by talking to Nia in the entrance, as sometimes she will tell you about a particular Legendary Pokémon or Ultra Beast, and if this is Necrozma you can save it to always be able to generate an adventure that ends in Necrozma by giving her 5 Dynite Ore. Likewise, if you reach Necrozma but run out of lives before you can catch it, you can leave a reminder with the scientist so that you can find it as many times as you need to.
Once you’re able to successfully find and complete a Necrozma raid, catch it and then talk to Peony in the entrance. He’ll be surprised you were able to make sense of the clue and catch a Pokémon, and look at the clue again before marking it as complete. Peony tells you that he didn’t write the clue, but we’re not left puzzled who did for long. The scientist who manages Dynamax Adventures comes over, asking where we found the clue - it turns out that they wrote it, although how it ended up on the floor of the Freeze Inn remains unanswered. Regardless, they are relieved that we recovered and deciphered it, and that we caught Necrozma, who was responsible for the Ultra Wormhole. They’ll then give you an Ability Patch, which allows you to give a Pokémon their Hidden Ability, as well as a Beast Ball, by way of thanks.
Peony seems somewhat sad that we’ve finished another adventure, but he’ll remain in the entrance for you to show him any Legendary Pokémon you catch, and you can also challenge him to a battle once a day. Nia also continues to hang around in the foyer, and will give you cosmetic items she finds occasionally, as well as provide information about particular Pokémon you can find in the Max Lair. The two of them can also be possible partners in Dynamax Adventures, as a nice little Easter Egg.
With that, all our story beats from the Crown Tundra are completed, although there is still one last surprise in store for us when we leave the Max Lair.
