Walkthrough:Pokémon Legends: Z-A/Part 3

Wake up Boo

Now that you’ve finally been allowed to go to sleep, waking up in your bed will trigger Main Mission 03: A New Life in Lumiose City. Return to the lobby via the elevator and you’ll be greeted by Urbain/Taunie and Eternal Flower Floette.

They tell you about the Z-A Royale, a competition in Lumiose City where trainers battle to go up the ranks. Trainers that reach Rank A will be granted one wish, making it a very coveted prize. They add the Z-A Royale app to your phone, which you can use to see your current rank, and how many points you need for your next promotional match to move up the ranks.

Battle Royale

Urbain / Taunie asks you to join them in Team MZ so you can win the Z-A Royale together. Once you join the team, Urbain/Taunie will give you a jacket and satchel, and ask you to take a profile picture. You are then taken to the app where you are shown your current rank (Rank Z) and that you need 1000 points to reach the next match.

Before you’re ready to battle, you need to know how to catch wild Pokémon. Urbain/Taunie teaches you how to roll out of the way of a wild Pokémon’s attacks, and the noise alerts Lida, another member of Team MZ. Urbain/Taunie then challenges you to a battle.

Rival time

For your first rival battle, Urbain/Taunie will use the other potential partner Pokémon that you didn't pick, leading with the Pokémon that has the type disadvantage to you, and then following up with the one that has the type advantage. They both remain at level 5 with their starting moves, and have not unlocked an offensive move aside from Tackle, so you still have the advantage.

As moves have cooldown, you shouldn’t rely on Tackle even when your other move is not very effective. The little bits of damage from these moves will eventually add up, and you have to wait for the Tackle to recharge anyway. Regardless of whether you win or lose, they will lead to the nearest Pokémon Center.

Vert Pokémon Center

Urbain/aunie wants to lead you to Vert Pokémon Center, but the path is blocked by some boulders. They show you how to take a shortcut over the rooftops, but you need to drop down the other side, making this a one way path. Once you’ve jumped off the building, meet up with them at the center.

Speaking to the woman at the center, she puts the Pokédex app in your phone, and explains that you will get prizes by collecting Pokémon. You can also buy items from her as well as heal.

Walk on the Wild side

Urbain/Taunie leads you to Wild Zone 1. This is where they teach you about catching Pokémon. After giving you 10 Poké Balls you are asked to catch a Fletchling by throwing balls at it. First you must target the Fletchling with ZL, then throw the ball with ZR. Afterwards you catch a Bunnelby by battling it. Take out your partner by pressing up on the D-Pad, and knock the Bunnelby out. Bunnelby will enter into a dazed animation, and you can then throw a ball at it to catch it. Once you’ve done this, you will be given 10 more Poké Balls.

With three Pokémon in hand, you are tasked with catching two more before heading to the Pokémon Research Lab on the other side of the Wild Zone. At the moment, you can find Scatterbug, Weedle and Mareep in this area to get up to five different Pokémon. Head to the lab to show off your catches. You’ll need to go to the Director’s Office on the third floor, which you can get to via the elevator.

Pokémon Levels Time of day Weather
Day Night Clear Harsh sunlight Cloudy Rain Fog
Non-fixed wild alpha Pokémon always have a 5% chance to spawn as alpha unless specified otherwise, once the player has completed Main Mission 05: "The City in the Shadow of Prism Tower".

Director debut

Inside you find Mable complaining about the effort it takes to research which Pokémon are safe for introduction into Lumiose City. She then asks you for help surveying the Pokémon you find. Agreeing will then open up Mable's research. As you’ve already reached level 2 you will be given TM004 Rock Smash. Luckily, these TMs are reusable.

As you leave the lab you’ll meet another member of Team MZ, Naveen. They give you a hat, and then Urbain/Taunie will call you. They ask you to teach your Bunnelby Rock Smash so that you can return to the hotel via the blocked path. However, we’ll go on a short detour first.

Filling out your dex

With Rock Smash we've opened up a new path in Wild Zone 1. Let Bunnelby out of the ball and direct it to Rock Smash the path behind the Mareep to get to a new area. Head up the ladder and up another ladder to find TM103 Work Up and Pidgey. Walk around the roof and jump down on the other side of the small pond to find and catch Pichu.

Now we can return to the hotel via the previously blocked off path to complete Main Mission 03.
