In Bewitch, Battle, and Bewilder!, Gastrodon was the fourth Pokémon used by Cynthia in her Masters Eight Tournament semi-finals battle against Ash. After Pikachu dodged its Earth Power by jumping into the air, Gastrodon used a defensive Stone Edge to block Pikachu's incoming Iron Tail. Instead of directly attacking Gastrodon, Pikachu's Iron Tail sliced off the tops of some of the stone pillars created by Stone Edge and sent them flying at Gastrodon. While Gastrodon managed to catch the rocks and absorb the impact, this left it immobilized and defenseless, allowing Pikachu to use Quick Attack to smash through the rocks and into Gastrodon, knocking it out.
Personality and characteristics
Gastrodon is undoubtedly one of Cynthia's most reliable Pokémon, being used just as much during her battles as Garchomp, who is its Trainer's ace. It was responsible for helping Cynthia defend her title of Sinnoh LeagueChampion, single-handedly defeating Aaron's Drapion and Beautifly in Aiding the Enemy!, a further showcase of its strength.
