Split

This page is really long. With how often these events rerun, it's only going to keep getting longer. I think it needs to be split up into separate pages, similar to how we split story event. But, unlike story events, villain events don't have any plot or story areas to speak of, so they have no script, either. So, maybe instead of splitting it up into one article per event, we could split it into one article per region? For example, having a page called Sinnoh villain events that contains Galactic Nightmare, Dreams of the Void, and Galactic Awakening.

On the other hand, I can see an argument for giving them each individual articles, too. When writing a Masters article, it's not uncommon to want to refer to Dreams of the Void or Galactic Awakening specifically, so those'd make for easy linking. I'm not sure how much more useful it'd be to have an article talking about Sinnoh villain events as a whole, as opposed to individual ones; the fact that it's the only region to have three villain events is notable, but that could be mentioned on the general villain event page. Villain event articles talking about individual events would be a better place to talk about something like title screen changes.

tl;dr: This page needs to be split, and I can see merit in either splitting it up by region or splitting it by individual event. Thoughts? Storm Aurora (talk) 21:14, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

Not sure there's quite enough to warrant separate articles for each event in this case, but going by region or by year or something could work. Landfish7 21:18, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
Splitting by year doesn't make a lot of sense, imo. You'd end up with a page with 3 events in 2021, 8 in 2022, and 4 (eventually 6) in 2023, so the 2022 page would still be pretty long. Plus, you'd be splitting up the Sinnoh villain event prelude from the other Sinnoh villain events. I'd prefer to split by region. Storm Aurora (talk) 22:06, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
Makes sense to me. I think I like the idea of keeping the base Villain event page that then has sections linking to List of Sinnoh villain events, etc. Landfish7 23:08, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
I'd go with splitting by region. The "Villain Event" page can then broadly describe the event format, and have sections like "Kanto Villain Events", "Johto Villain Events", etc that link to the post-split regional pages. If we need to link to specifically "Dreams of the Void" or "Team Aqua's Stormy Seas", those could just be sections on the regional pages. Or redirects to those sections. --Boblers (talk) 23:26, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
I was already updating this page with the new rerun info so I went ahead and threw together a quick draft of what a page for the Hoenn villain events could look like. Storm Aurora (talk) 19:35, 24 June 2023 (UTC)
I'd prefer the title "List of Hoenn villain events", personally, but otherwise at a glance this looks good. Landfish7 20:22, 24 June 2023 (UTC)

(resetting indent)It feels wrong to call it "List of Hoenn villain events" when the list consists of only two events, but "Hoenn villain events" doesn't quite feel right, either, since that's not an officially recognized group... Storm Aurora (talk) 21:53, 24 June 2023 (UTC)

Made a few small updates to the draft Hoenn villain events page, mainly moving around information that's the same between both events and adding some additional details. But the more I look at it, the more I feel like it seems unnecessary to group the two villain events together on the same page. All the things they have in common are things they share with other villain events (i.e. These events tied into the [region] chapter of the Villain Arc, featuring battles against [evil team(s)]. They also gave players items to power up [sync pair], the sync pair obtainable in the Legendary Adventures [region legendary adventures].) And if a user wants to reference information about both events at the same time (which feels likely since they always rerun at the same time), it'd be easier to do that by switching between tabs than having to scroll up and down the page. This would also neatly resolve the issue about what to call the page.
On an unrelated but still relevant to the split discussion note, I'm not sure which sync pairs to consider the "featured" pairs for the infobox. Right now I've listed Sygna Suit May & Blaziken, Sygna Suit Brendan & Latios, and Sygna Suit Steven & Deoxys, since they're the three limited pairs that were introduced with the debut of these events who are also featured on the event notification images. However, Zinnia and her Rayquaza are featured on the two event banners, and the main boon of the event is being able to unlock their EX style and Mega Evolution. Meanwhile, the prose says the events focus on Team Magma and Team Aqua, respectively, and nobody gets any reward bonuses in either event. So...who do we consider the featured sync pairs? Or do we say there are no featured sync pairs? Storm Aurora (talk) 00:13, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
In that case I don't suppose it would hurt to have them as separate articles. Landfish7 05:09, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Draft articles for Team Magma's Red-Hot Rage and Team Aqua's Stormy Seas have been created :) The original version with the two combined is still at the old link, for comparison. Storm Aurora (talk) 22:03, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Thanks so much for your work on this! Seeing the drafts, these seem substantial enough to be their own articles. Perhaps we should go ahead and just split out all of the villain events then? I think I'll ask Wowy what he thinks just to be sure. Landfish7 23:11, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

(resetting indent)All villain events now have their own articles! For now, I've just left all the sections on this page with links to the main articles, but ideally I'd like to put them into a table like we did on the story event page. I'm thinking of listing them all in release order, without any separation of the "preludes" (Looming Shadow of Kanto isn't even considered a prelude anymore, as of the latest rerun), and including a column on the left to group them all by region.
