If you guys can get the approval from the majority of the people who contributed to the Wikipedia Smogon article (shouldn't be hard, seeing as they're mainly Smogonites anyway, and the other edits seem to be minor), I wouldn't have any problem removing the Wikipedia tag. Especially since Wikipedia has deleted the Smogon article there anyway. --Archaic 02:49, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Editing this article

Is it just me or does this article sound as if it's a Pine-O-Cleen commercial? Ironically, this article isn't "well-written" as it's saturated with self-promoting, self-evaluating text. Regardless, this note is to just inform you people of my reasons justifying why I have edited the article.

Nazi Mention

Why was it deleted? It's true! Everyone knows that Smogon is Nazi. --Maxim 17:02, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Before it gets protected

I think the statements about Smogon being a Neo-Nazi and Smogon admins being unfair and abusive should be re-added. This isn't POV, it's reality. --Maxim 19:27, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Why is this protected? This sounds like it was made by some asshole on the site. I don't see what makes it so notable when you've had so many competitive sites throughout the times. Also, I have how the "source" for this article is Smogon's website itself. Why is THE Alternative being blocked again? Just because you morons haven't heard of it doesn't mean that other people haven't--GGFan

I agree. The page ignores the MOST IMPORTANT FACTS about Smogon卐 That community is run by NEO-NAZIS. It can't be ignored! --Maxim 19:38, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

I agree with GGFan. The site lacks any notability whatsoever and is obviously supported by people who go to Smogon. I've used THE Alternative's analyses before and yet a certain idiot blocked the creation of the site: COSORO

LOL. Using one's own sockpuppets to say "I agree with him" is just ridiculous. --Maxim 19:45, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

[email protected] the use of sockpuppets. An incredibly idiotic and pathetic tactic on one's part. Anyways GGFan is right.

Maxim, nothing like that will be in this article or any other article. Ever. -Sketch 19:58, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Care to explain? Are you a Smogon Lover? --Maxim 19:59, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

I find it hilarious that the only "proof" of notability is the site's link. Yet the creation of other articles about sites is prohibited. Obvious Smogon buttbias.

Questionable notability?

I'd rather question the whole "questionable notability" tagging. Why do all newly created fan site articles get removed? I understand if it's about a 200-user forum, but I've seen quite notable articles taken immediately down, including some that had existed a decent time. I don't remember any other fan site article created in 3 months that would've stayed on the site other than PokéCommunity. After all, one part of Pokémon universe is the fan base, so why do we try to hide this by listing only a couple fan sites? UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 20:02, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Especially a site like TPM which has been dead for years.

Mostly sites that are on the wanted pages are allowed to get created. MaverickNate 20:05, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

THE Alternative is obviously wanted right now.

just because a person wants an article, doesn't mean the server does. The server controls the wanteds, we must follow the great server. MaverickNate 20:09, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
That's, though, because there are no links to that page; someone could always make one. There are, after all, quite a handful of articles that wouldn't appear in the Wanted pages, because they haven't been linked. UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 20:13, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Testing the Google Search in Firefox's search field (which suggests the searches the other have done most often), I can say this:
  • "the alternative" didn't pop up at any point (though "the alternative dictionary" and "the alternative design book" did, when I had written "the alt")
  • "smogon" popped up when I had written "smog"
  • "serebii" popped up at "ser"
  • "bulbapedia" popped up at "bul", and "bulbagarden" joined it at "bulb"
  • "pokecommunity" popped up at "pokec"
  • "puk" didn't appear, but that's most probably because of the simplicity of the name
etc. etc. It isn't an exact meter of popularity, but it tells something about the magnitude of knowledge about a site. UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 20:35, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Good job. You are good. MaverickNate 20:37, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Of course THE Alternative isn't going to pop up on google so quickly. THE Alternative is a broad name that has been used by different people and companies. And your search was biased and I can do something similar; in fact I will.

-Smogon never popped up when I entered "gon".

-Serebii never popped up whe I entered "bii"

-Bulbapedia never popped up when I entered "edia"

-Pokecommunity never popped up when I entered "community"

However, after searching "THE Alternative GGFan" you can find several results regarding THE Alternative. I think that shows that THE Alternative may be a cult forum, but it is known and recognized, also having every right to be posted.

You don't search the last parts, you should search letters, starting at the beginning. Also, make sure your search engine does offer suggestions. The Dark Fiddler - Nos hablamos? 23:11, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Smogon doesn't begin with "gon". Serebii doesn't begin with "bii". Bulbapedia doesn't begin with "edia", and Pokécommunity doesn't begin with "community". If you searched "rnative" you'd find just as much nothing as with the end of any word. Face it dude, your site's just not that notable. Go on, make a userpage and link it there, you might get some traffic. It's just, well, not mainspace worthy, any more than Spyro Fans Anonymous is notable enough to be on a Spyro wiki. So all in all, dude, accept that you have your own users who do competitive RBY (over the internet, though, how? And in 2009, why?). You like Gen I. Great. More power to ya. But the fact of the matter is that BECAUSE you focus on ribby so much, and don't have sections about gusk, riseyfirlg, and dippit, you aren't gonna get much more than a cult following (and hopefully not a cult following, cough Tom Cruise cough). TTEchidna 23:14, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
GGFan, see your talk page if you haven't. Forums with ~300 members aren't anywhere near notable. End of case. UltimateSephiroth (about me · chat · edits) 23:17, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Smogon down

DDOS apparently... should we add? --Hinatastar (talk) 15:32, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

I don't think we need to add every time a site goes down, even due to a DDOS. It happens quite a bit to some Pokemon sites in general. --It's Funktastic~!話してください 15:40, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
(conflict)We don't keep active notes on website pages that they are down (unless they're down for prolonged periods like Glitch City Labs was). --SnorlaxMonster 15:41, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
